Crime in relation to drugs is on rise

ATLANTA --- Gwinnett County has seen a rise in drug-related kidnappings this year, fueling fears of increased violence, federal officials say.

Mexican drug cartels move large quantities of cocaine, methamphetamine and marijuana into the country to be distributed along the East Coast, Rodney Benson, the special agent in charge of the Drug Enforcement Agency in Atlanta, told The Atlanta Journal Constitution . He said drug-related kidnappings have increased over the past three months.

Gwinnett County is a center of Mexican drug cartel activity, David Nahmias, U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Georgia, told the newspaper. He said the area is attractive to cartels because of easy transportation on I-85 and a large Hispanic population, which makes it easier for traffickers to blend in.

Gwinnett has seen about nine drug-related kidnappings this year. In the most recent, federal agents earlier this month rescued a man bound and chained in a basement in Lilburn. In another case this month, police shot and killed a kidnapping suspect during a ransom pickup. In a third, police arrested nine alleged drug traffickers, including a 16-year-old girl, in Lawrenceville.

Gwinnett County Assistant District Attorney Keith Miles said traffickers are getting younger.

"Our cases are going up," he said. "We got 15-year-olds out here slinging kilos of cocaine. When that's going on in this county, that's a big problem."

Mr. Benson said representatives of Mexican drug cartels are "clashing with each other" in Atlanta.

"We are very concerned about the type of extreme violence we've seen on the Mexican side of the border starting to come to this side of the border and to North Georgia," Mr. Nahmias said.

Mr. Miles said the rise in kidnappings is not a "blip." He said more drugs are coming into the county accompanied by violence.

"It's just a matter of time before innocent people get caught in the crossfire," Mr. Miles said.

Stupid Mexicans! "Columbia Cartel County"-yep, I can see it now. Looks like a bunch of riff-raff has already infiltrated, such as the "Micks" oops, I mean the Irish so-called "gypsies." Just a bunch of SCUM, nothing else. Stuff the mouths of the Mexicanos with chili peppers and the Irish with potatoes and put 'em on public display. I've nothing better to do with my rotten tomatoes now!

Regarding the article above. DUH! BTW I thought this article was about Augusta Richmond County. But I guess only the naive, the brain-damaged, the co-dependent or the complicit aren't going to acknowledge that we have had "crime in relation to drugs on the rise" in Richmond County for at least the last 10 years.

This IS RICHMOND COUNTY and Grovetown, now. We have our Government to THANK for this mess. And they want to make illegals, legal? Nice going Barrow!

There are no drug cartels in richmond county. They usually setup shop in the suburbs of cities. Take for example gwinnett county in atlanta. It was the county that all the whites ran to from the city of atlanta. Now its nothing but gangs, and a high crime area. Everybody is trying to get out of gwinnett. Especially those in norcoss georgia. Columbia county will become the gwinnett of atlanta in about 5 years. It was bound to happen after a while. All the whites ran to columbia county. Same with gwinnett. Growth is not good all the time. Now all the whites are trying to move back into the city of atlanta. Atlanta city has gained 26,000 white residents in the last 2 years. West augusta definitely doesn't have any drug problems in the area. Its by far the best place to live in metro augusta.

Oh, the drugs the West Augusta kids are buying here and bringing back home aren't a drug problem? No, they are multiple drug problems. Give me a break caliguy. Those young people sliding around the corner in 30906 on Wednesday nights boom boom boom when their parents were at church weren't buying candy in their fancy little cars with both Richmond County and Columbia County tags. Most of the white kids in 30906 don't have enough discretionary money to buy drugs, so the traffickers know to sell to West Augusta and Columbia County visitors. Yes, there are still white people still living in all parts of Augusta, that didn't run like cowards to Columbia County when the going got tough and aren't drug sellers, buyers or co-dependents. What makes you think there are no drug cartels in Richmond County? Do you just call them something else? Like "drug-trafficking network"? "Circle of friends and co-dependents with a common interest"? "Gangs"? Crips, Bloods, the "Mickey Mouse Gang"? TMB (Terrace Manor Boys, play on The Mexican Boys)? O'Dubs?, etc..... No drug cartels? So what? A herd of elephants out of control by any other name can still crush people.
