An Augusta man was in jail in McCormick County on Sunday night after being accused of firing shots at police during a pursuit that crossed state lines.
Todd Harbuck, 32, of Lakemont Drive, who was wanted for questioning in two Columbia County incidents, was spotted by Columbia County sheriff's deputies just before 7 p.m. on Blackstone Camp Road near Furys Ferry Road in Martinez.
Columbia County sheriff's Capt. Steve Morris said Mr. Harbuck was driving a white 2003 Jeep Cherokee that had been reported stolen last week from the Econo Lodge on South Belair Road.
Mr. Harbuck was also wanted in connection with a residential burglary last month in which a weapon was stolen, Capt. Morris said.
During Sunday's pursuit, Capt. Morris said, Mr. Harbuck fired shots at Columbia County and South Carolina Highway Patrol officers.
Mr. Harbuck faces a number of charges in Georgia and South Carolina, including aggravated assault on a police officer, fleeing and attempting to elude a police officer, Capt. Morris said.
Mr. Harbuck is expected to be extradited to Columbia County after facing charges in South Carolina, Capt. Morris said.

Once a criminal fires a single shot at a law enforcement officer, he/she should be taken down and out. We ask law enforcement to take too much of a gamble -- a stupid criminal should be a dead criminal. Police should make it home every night.
I know him. We were once good friends until he stole from me. I forgave him but not the drugs. He needs rehab, he has been to prison before it did not work. He came out still using. I hope his mom stops protecting him and lets him become a man. At 32 he his still very much a little boy. I do not think mommie can save him this time.
He was a friend of mine in middle school and first year of high school. I was surprised to see he was back up to no good, I thought perhaps he had straightened up. He has no respect for authority. His last prison sentences was when he tried to run over a security guard who was questioning his girlfriend for shoplifting. I feel sorry for his mom, but you're right, she needs to stop protecting him.

It seems like Augusta is fool of idiots like this. There are exceptions, of course, but it appears that so many "kids" have plenty or resources and oppurtunities to be sucessful, but prefer acting like any common criminal and being labled as the jackass they are. It's sad, really. It seems this type of situation is more abundant around here, as in the Patrick Armstrong incident in Athens, but maybe it's just me. Grow up, children.
I so agree rip jones, I feel anytime a criminal even flees they are endangering the lives of innocents, just like the poor lady who was hit on gordon highway, these officers should not stop chasing to protect the public, they need to let out a barage of bullets on the tires to stop that speeding vehicle and then he's shooting at them on top of it, I feel no sympathy for this punk, hope they at least gave him a good beat down for his efforts haha!!!!!!!

I specifically looked for this story today b/c I saw the chase. Honestly, they should just keep him in jail. The stealing and drugs have been his way of life for a LONG time. No,they didnt mention drugs,but like wise...if you knew him then you know drugs are involved
As a witness to this incident, I sure am glad we didn't get hit with flying bullets. Law enforcement did a great job protecting those traveling on Hwy 28 while in pursuit of this idiot. I'm thankful that no one was hurt but this guy should rot in jail for the rest of his life for putting peoples lives in danger like he did.

Not from me tall2... check my posts.. I have the upmost respect for cops and absolutely no sympathy for a criminal. If you are such an idiot to run from the cops and endanger a whole lot of innocent lives... I do not thinnk they should not chase them becuase after all they are probably running because they have done something bad, and they should do anything it takes to stop the driver before he kills someone, not let them go to commit more crimes!!!! Try shooting out the tires fist, then blocking him in, if that doesnt work before he takes off shoot his butt!!! There are cameras now to show that they attempted to apprehend and he still kept trying to escape. if 3 times he didn't stop he's out!!!!!!! My family witnessed this chase while at a gas station on HWY 28 in McCormick county. He also shot at a car leaving the gas station. It is truly a miracle that no one was injured in the high speed chase or in his reckless firing of a weapon out the window while traveling at a very high rate of speed. My Kudos to Columbia county for capturing this guy who needs to be locked up for a VERY long time for endangering the lives of so many people. I know my children haven't stopped asking about the "shooter" since they witnessed it!
Another exceptional case of parents who forget they are "parents" and not "friends" of their children. Parents were never meant to be friends with their children thats why they are the parent and as such should act and teach accordingly. Parents who cover up for, stick up for, explain away their childs negative behavior continue to do so usually until they are dead or in jail hopefully without taking another life with time. Good job Columbia County and SCHP for taking this thug off of the street and placing him where he belongs. And, I agree, if you attempt to murder anyone, you should loose your right to ever be a part of society again therefore, the death penalty for cases such as this are just as apporpriate as when someone takes the life of another person.
I am the girl whose jeep was actually stolen and lets just say Todd made a bad decision but when you are on drugs everything is distorted. I agree he definitely need rehab...
