Absolutely Right! I totally AGREE!
Regarding the question from Antoine A. Burch on July 9 ("Are some child deaths more important?"), as to why a story regarding a missing Vermont girl was found on Page 3A, while that of a South Carolina girl was placed on 5B:
This newspaper and many others dedicate the A section to national and international news. The B section is dedicated to local and area news of interest of the paper's readership, which is the CSRA and includes parts of South Carolina. The races of the respective children is not relevant, either to the placement of the story or the tragedy it portrays.
We are confronted with many serious problems globally, nationally and locally -- some of which may signal the end of our standard of living, if not the extinction of the species. We may never solve these problems unless we stop seeing the world as black and white, you and me, and begin to search for solutions in terms of us. If I'm not mistaken, I believe this is the fundamental theme of Barack Obama's message.
Richard Eismann, Augusta
Absolutely Right! I totally AGREE!
It may be BO's message, but NOT of his supporters, and certainly not the message of his long time mentor of 20 years.
Amen, SisterAbdullahX, Amen!
Eismann if you really believe that is bo's message then you are another one of the duped...who will be lamenting and beating your chest and tearing at your hair when this man's true agenda comes to light....and it will be exposed. Lo and Behold the obamessiah is just another politician with no super natural powers or abilities to CHANGE the status quo.
Amen Sister...But with one added comment..Obama has a message that has no foundation other than to confuse and blind his followers into submission...
Race is not the divider of man but men are divided by their relationship to Jesus Christ. It divides people now as it should, and it will divide us in eternity. Having that relationship is the source of all solutions and not having it becomes the source of all problems.
When Rupert Murdock got tired of all news being presented after passing through a left wing filter, he started a network where news was available with a balanced point of view. If you don't think your narrow and shallow point of view is getting enough respect on this forum, justus4, start your own. There may be a market for it.
Seriously, PT, anyone who thinks Fox is balanced needs to have meds to have their meds upped to fix their imbalance.
I don't think any of them are balanced, that is why I read them all the divide down the middle. Of course common sense has to come into play also!
CBBP that's not fair...you can't arbitrarily demand that all races have common sense...
On July 23 at 9pm and July 24 at 9pm, CNN will premier a series, 'Black in America with Soledad O'Br ien'.
Now lets have White in America, American Indian in America, Brown-Mexian in America, Irish in America, Cajun in America, etc. etc....Of course I guess all people who look white but are made up of different bloodlines will all be "lumped" into one pot while the blacks or just blacks...Seems a tad lopsided to me....I believe we all talk about one race more than another simply because that particular race is the most vocal and therefore drown out all others who have similar grips...It is tiring always to have to watch our p's and q's when talking about problems in the United States as we wouldn't want to offend the African population...
It is equally tiring to be a member of a "minority" population whose ancestors were very much contributing members in shaping the economic, cultural and social foundation of America, to continue to be marginalized,, minimized, and virtually ignored within their own localities where they work, and pay taxes. A true testament to a democracy is not how "fatigue" the majority becomes in crossing their "ts" in an attempt at respecting and rectifying these inequities, but in how well they treat and attempt to intergrate the "minority" populations as relevant members of a representative government. Conversely, if the majority had not opposed the "minority" in defining themselves from the beginning, there would be no need to cross "ts" today. Always remember that "fatigue" works both ways.
Christian, I for one am not African...never been quite frankly, do plan to go anytime soon. I simply posted the information hoping people would take a look at something other than what they see in the media. As far as grouping is concerned, I think it's people like you who only see black or white...it's your race (the supreme race) vs. everyone else. If you have any, I pray that your children are not raised with your eyes...everyday you find a way...through the Augusta Chronicle to find a way to let us all know just how much you hate blacks and every article about blacks finding injustice. Jackson this, Sharpton that...find some. Born again christian my behind...Last time I checked, the lord said "Thou shalt not judge any man"...one would think that would be simple, but it appears to be the one thing you can't avoid.
I agree with the writer, and I still think Burch is nothing more than a racist instigator himself, instead of using common sense and/or intelligence to figure out why the article was in a different section, his/her first thought is.. "it's because she it black" and it was dead wrong!! Probably his/her excuse for everything. At first I just hoped Burch did not realize the article was where it should be before he typed the letter, then I was like why are you making excuses for him, even if he did make a mistake, he still flew off the handle about that issue at first chance and wrote a public letter about it. Says a lot about his character anyway. People like that should not reproduce, they are part of the problem not the solution!!
UnChristian, you are so racist against blacks, that half the time you don't make sense. Every day you have some whine against us. On behalf of the black race, go ......... and Pat too.
Sorry folk for going off on a tangent in the previous post, but it's just tiring to have someone like that always repeating the media. I simply added some info that I think would be good for everyone to see. From what I've heard from those who've seen it, it's not defending the black community, but instead it's highlighting some of the problems, while also discussing some of the issues the white community have with the black community. Since none of us here can seem to change the minds of each other, maybe seeing it from outside of this chat room and Augusta may help.
In Richmond County GA, the racial makeup is so that blacks are the majority. Therefore, any and all "minority" programs in this county should be addressed to the white race. Take a look at this well run county government. Take a look at this "Augusta Delegation" in the state house. Of The Blacks, For The Blacks, By The Blacks has not worked in your county. Mirrors hold the answers. Look in one. 55% of whites in the USA say racial relations have improved in their lifetimes. 36% of blacks agree. Truth hurts, don't it?
Sorry for all the misdeeds I have done to you and yours...Actually that would be a lie as I have never intentionally done one of your kind any harm and am extremely tired of your perpetual whining and crying over a past that is just that the past..Most everyone in this country has had an ancestor at one time or another stomped upon but your people insist they are the only true martyrs and that is irritating to say the least....RCR take your whining little unchristian remark and stuff it that is about as old and washed up as your complaining as well as your NAACP....Find a new song friend...
It is naive and immature to boldly proclaim that the present is not birthed from past events. It is taken for granted that your white ancestors and their past "glory" are enthusiastically celebrated regularly in this country. From your "founding fathers," to the Washington Monument, "white" history and culture is a celebration of its past reflecting and encouraging its future. It is wrong and irrational to deny the history of another group, no matter how its historical realities might deflect or cast a dim shadow upon yours. Until today, millions of dollars in "aid" is provided to the Jewish state of Israel to rectify wrongs, as we are routinely reminded all across the world about their suffering during the Holocaust, with no objections from the majority. Again, it is not the business of the majority to dictate or decide for a minority population its historical relevancy in understanding their present predicament. This is Eurocentric arrogance and ignorance at its worst. It is also a dangerous and unhealthy portent that we are doomed to repeat this past if this nation does not come to what few senses it has left.
Republicant, your comment makes it seem that you have been trained to feel that only far left "news reports" are balanced and anything else isn't. It also makes your point of view look skewed. It certainly doesn't make you appear knowledgeable.
Lets explore this overworked phrase in the Bible that tells us "judge not lest ye be judged". Jesus' statement, "Do not judge", is against the kind of hypocritical judgmental attitude that tears other down in order to build oneself up. Now as many of the black race seek to demean white people as being the crux of the downfall of their people I am vehemently opposed to that sort of discrimination that only serves to bring this nation further from any sort of unity...As far as my being Christian is concerned you all would do well to judge yourselves before delving into my relationship with my God and Jesus Christ...
see christian, that is exactly what I'm saying...it's the terms like "your kind", "your people", and such that keep the hatred going. Although you may not intend to, but to young followers of your word, it keeps the hatred flowing. I'll admit that I am also tired of the "man has his foot on my neck" attitude, but I speak TO those people with a positive attitude and try to get them to realize that they are owed nothing. BUT, what do you do besides belittle the ENTIRE black race and preach that we are all evil and should be hated? Let us not forget that while there are problems within my community, there are also millions of hateful white american who would like nothing better than to return to the times their parents and grandparents lived in. I'm only 33 years old, but I've been a lot of places, seen a lot of things, and been called a "n!$$*$" a few times, just because the older white gentlemen didn't want to be managed by this young black guy. So like it or not, black aren't the only whiners! America needs an overhaul and it doesn't start with Obama...it needs to start right here...with us!
Black History Month, celebrating black heritage, these things are necessary and appropriate. I agree there is no need for a White history month etc because it's already celebrated in other guises. NAACP, UNCF, SCLC, BLT, these things time have passed and should be disbanded to foster racial accord. As long as there is a NAACP, there is a need for a NAAWP. If there is a need for black liberation theology, there is a need for white liberation theology. That is called EQUALITY and it was MLK's goal. It's ok for blacks to call themselves [filtered word], and it's okay for whites to call themselves crackers. That's not a double standard, it's EQUALITY. Those words have evolved into terms of inclusion. What is expected today is not equality, it's racial extortion. All races are given an equal chance to succeed in the USA today. Note the large percentages of Asian/Hispanic/Arab immigrants owning businesses and becoming leaders. I say EQUALITY has been achieved, now it's up to the individual to make the effort themselves.
No one has a problem with whites or any other group forming social alliances which re-enforce their racial and cultural cohesiveness. The problem with your "white power" argument is that at its philosophical and political premise is the outrageous notion of racial superiority, which advocates oppression, xenophobia and racism, culminating into death and violence against those who have been deemed "sub-human" and "inferior." It is purely fascism blanketed as social/cultural cohesion. Your history and track record proceeds and confirms this reality. You can call yourselves what you wish, and celebrate your "racial pride" with whatever esteem-building nuances you please, as long as it does not infringe upon the rights and human dignity of another. That has always been the only argument against your "cultural bonding" agenda.
But when you seek to say the white man the white race the white majority then it is okay right....Now if I say the word White Power the black people scream and carry on but if you say Black Power or Black this that those them I am supposed to be okay with it...I am not a horrible white person who would like to string up all blacks I just want to live and not have to always put up with blacks making a stink about flags, welfare or laws that are unfair because the white man created them...It is old and is increasingly getting worse...
Any person who claims not to have a bias for their own race is a liar. It's too bad the hardest working races in America aren't either white or black. It's only our society which makes it into "racism" or "bigotry". All races should be able to organize or speak with words as they wish. Where the problem lies is in the interaction with each other. Blacks don't wish to use "white man's language" and ridicule any other race who attempts to converse similarly as "wannabe's". Blacks want people to apologize for offending them with words used by them. I've learned (some) spanish and it never fails to please those Latino's when I demonstrate it to them. Blacks who have succeeded in today's world are often ridiculed by their own race. My message is to all races: it's up to you the individual to improve your lot in life. No one owes you a thing that you don't work for.
Tall2, I agree with you to an extent. I don't even know what a couple of those groups you listed are. However, the need is still there for the majors such as NAACP. While it only gets to the spotlight when there is something major in the media, some of these groups are very helpful within the black communities and on the local level. They are out trying to educate, curb crime, and keep the peace in most cases. As far as "[filtered word]" and "cracker" goes, I make it a point not to use either, although I have used both before, but never in (what I thought) was a deragatory manner. I think the problem is created when the another race uses it as a way to belittle the other. It's no secret how the word "ni$$er" was used in the past and is still use at times today...I can't speak on "cracker" because I don't know the history on it. I think it is totally wrong for people to use the term so freely, but are the same people ready to riot when a white person uses it in the same manner.
why is it that when people say... you people or your kind it is automatically thought to be a hateful race reference.. anyone who is not racist themselves would might think differently, like the person saying it is talking about people who think alike... not your race!!!! lol The same mentality is what first comes to my mind when myself or anyone says you people, not race!!!
