RETEST RESULTS

Richmond County pupils who failed the required portions of the state's Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests in the spring had the opportunity to retake the test after a 15-day intensive summer school session. More than 1,500 of the 3,242 pupils who retook the tests, however, still had trouble passing the standardized test. Most of them struggled with a more rigorous math curriculum.

Very sad results....are these kids teachable.?..are the teachers qualified to teach or are they there because it was easier to become a teacher than any other profession????

truthhurtswhentold

Karma, you can't be serious!!! Can you find something positive to say?

ADawgFan

Few other professions require a college degree with continual re-licensing every five years with course credit requirements during each of those licensing periods. I have been a teacher for twenty-eight years, most of which was spent in the Augusta area, and only remain a teacher because I love my students and feel I am called to be a teacher. Over the years, drugs and the breakdown of the family have impacted our profession profoundly. Karma, I think if we work toward repairing those things instead of being critical of kids and teachers, test scores will change dramatically.

Hey Karma, you ball-less putz! You couldn't do half my job and couldn't carry my balls with a handtruck! Fyou pal! Any task, any time and I'll B-Slap you and your addled little mind. ALL teachers are so tired of attitudes like yours. We try ALL day, ALL week -nights and weekends. I have had lawyers and doctors come "teach" my classes - the professions we actually respect (you know, the jobs that are "hard" to get - and they fade so badly after talking to two classes, in ONE day only. They are nonplused by the questions the kids ask and by the lack of overall background knowledge they possess. In a word, they CAN"T HANG! I get a kick out of business people who, as part of a team, work two weeks on a 20 minute presentation, then after its presentation, high-five, take a long lunch, then go home early, congratulating themselves on successfully completing the hardest task imaginable. Teachers do it six times a day, alone, to an often unappreciative audience. You tough fellow? Get off your lazy [filtered word] and get yourself "easily" certified, come work for a salary lower that other professions, then add your magnificently significant difference. Bet you are out before the year is over.

SAD -- SAD --- and what is really sad is the magnet schools are on this list.

No_Longer_Amazed

outraged1: Your comment puzzles me as I thought that only CT Walker is a magnet school. Out of 21 total failures in all grades and all subjects, 17 or 81-percent passed the retest. All 7 retested in 8th-grade MATH passed.

ldsmith1

As tough as the math test was, and I read one form of the 5th grade test, I would be a little suspicious of any school, magnet or not, that had a 100% passing rate on the first go round.

Little Lamb

Remember, a test that has a 100% pass rate is a test that is way too easy. A test that has a 100% pass rate is a meaningless test. We have let this "self esteem" thing get out of hand if we are encouraging our education officials to give puff tests that everyone passes.
