A man who had been sought in a June 2007 Aiken murder case was arrested Thursday in Michigan, Aiken County authorities announced late Thursday.
According to an Aiken County Sheriff's Office news release, Koran M. Sapp, 24, was arrested by Michigan State Police following a traffic stop in Taylor, Michigan.
Mr. Sapp had been sought in the murder of Najee Preister at T & S Mobile Home Park, Aiken, the release states.
Police say that about 4:20 p.m., a Michigan state trooper
noticed a motorist throwing litter from a vehicle and made a traffic stop. The trooper reported smelling an odor of marijuana in the vehicle and as he began to investigate, police say, Mr. Sapp, a passenger, got behind the wheel and sped away.
According to the release, the vehicle Mr. Sapp was in collided with another car a quarter-mile away and he ran from the car.
Authorities in Michigan have reportedly fingerprinted Mr. Sapp and made a positive identification. Aiken County authorities say they will make arrangements to extradite Mr. Sapp to South Carolina.
