Aliases being investigated

Police investigating the background of an Augusta woman whose past includes five dead husbands said Thursday that they would like to know whether her work as a Richmond County voting precinct poll worker helped her acquire the information she used to concoct 28 aliases.

Betty Neumar: Five-time widow became a poll worker in Richmond County in 2004.

Betty Neumar, 76, of Cambridge Court in Augusta, is being held in Stanly County, N.C., on charges that she asked someone to kill her husband in 1986. After authorities began to investigate her past, they discovered she had been married five times, and all her husbands had died amid mysterious circumstances. Three had been shot.

At a bond hearing earlier this week, prosecutors told a judge she is a flight risk because they found she has used more than two-dozen aliases on passports, driver's licenses and credit cards.

Police now say they'd like to see whether any of her work as a Richmond County poll worker -- a job that provides access to voters and their identification -- helped her create any of those aliases.

Sgt. Scott Williams, investigator with the Stanly County Sheriff's Office, said Thursday he would pursue the matter with the Richmond County Board of Elections.

Mrs. Neumar was a poll worker at Woodlawn United Methodist Church from 2004 until her arrest, according to elections board executive director Lynn Bailey.

"She worked the first time July 2004 and worked on a regular basis up until the beginning of the year when she was no longer able to work," Mrs. Bailey said.

Mrs. Neumar had filled in as assistant poll manager at Woodlawn, she said.

"She was quite well regarded by the management team and the board of elections," she said.

Mrs. Bailey said she had no reason to believe Mrs. Neumar used Richmond County voter information to create aliases.

Debster

Just because Mrs. Bailey hasn't reason to believe that Ms. Neumar used voter records, I'm hoping she'll cooperate with authorities who will determine for sure whether or not she did. Such a shame!

She has "more than two dozen aliases" on passports, drivers licenses and credit cards? Where do suppose she got the aliases from? Duh!

She is like the broad off of The Adams Family movie. I think the 2nd one....where uncle fester had that wife....I think her name might have been Betty too!!!!!! She needs to be put to death. She has lived a long life anyways....she took lives and hers should be taken too.

Too bad that law enforcement did not take action sooner so this killer would not have been able to continue. Sympathy to the families who lost their loved ones because of her greed.

looks like "homeland security is falling down in the drivers license and passport areas. With all the billions spent on that agency you would think they could do better. Especially since fingerprints and original birth certificates are needed to apply for both documents.

Yo Ariana! Her name was Debbie not Betty.

Killing of wives and husbands by one another, is not a priority in Richmond and Columbia County. The local yocals probably think she is innocent. Betty will likely end up pleading guilty to exciting a riot, and our local judges will give her "time served". What a disgrace Augusta is known for.

She is not charged in Columbia or Richmond County.....Yet
