Organization will fund its own gay campaign
COLUMBIA --- A gay pride organization said Thursday it plans to raise $5,000 to pay for an advertising campaign that proclaimed "South Carolina is so gay" after the state refused to pick up the tab.
SC Pride Movement President Ryan Wilson said his group is stepping in after the Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department refused to pay. The state was one of a half-dozen highlighted in the London-based ad campaign aimed at gay travelers.
Joel Sawyer, the spokesman for Gov. Mark Sanford, said tax money shouldn't be used for ads "that promote any group with a particular social or political agenda."
A state tourism employee who officials have not identified resigned this week after the outcry.
Mr. Wilson said the organization hopes to pay the bill before September, when thousands of gays and lesbians gather for the annual state pride rally.

Amen Stickman!!! As a Christian I am suppose to love those who are gay but no where does it say I have to approve of your lifestyle or promote something that goes against my personal or Christian belief. That's the problem, Christians have not taken a stand for what they feel is wrong because we have been brainwashed into believing that if we say anything negative we are not being a good loving Christian. It's time we get a backbone and start speaking out (in love) against the moral decay of our society.
I suppose it's the gay people's fault that the divorce rate is over 50% in this country and the rate of single motherhood is so high? I think there are other things that should be focused on in this society that are more important than this "gay" issue.
Sounds like the Gay people are not really "Gay". When are we going to loose that Gay tag and start using the proper terms "Homosexual and Lesbian". I am sure the Homosexuals and lesbians (because they are not the same physically) would much rather be identified as what they are. The term gay indicates someone who is very happy and it appears these folks aren't very happy unless they get their way. By the way, why do they go to bars and clubs that are not openly advertised as serving their different life styles, rather they are known only to the members of that lifestyle. Come on folks if you are so gay then quit hiding it and be open about it.
well i would be pretty mad if my tax dollars paid for anything going towards the gay community. they aren't special or better than anyone else. its time for sepration of gay and state!
yeah, those gay people don't pay any taxes and couldn't possibly be Christian --like us! Frankly, they should all be branded with a big "H" on their heads. Hitler had it right! Was it gold stars or pink?
i would brand them with a big "G" instead! good thinking though.
