As members of Alchemy, a belly dance troupe, shimmied and their costumes jingled, Christianna Stokes did her best to imitate them.
The 2-year-old wiggled her hips and swayed her arms and told her mother belly dancing was something she wanted to do.
Young adults were the target audience of the Alchemy program at the Headquarters Branch Library on Saturday, according to librarian Jennie Feinberg, but all ages attended.
The five women of Alchemy performed several routines.
Dancer Jeannie Bylinowski, one of Alchemy's directors, said the group would show off its style in its beginning number.
"This is our drum medley," she said before the dancers began. "It's cabaret, tribal, modern fusion, a hodgepodge of everything."
Also during the program, Marirene Edwards debuted a solo piece, and Ms. Bylinowski and Ms. Edwards performed a modern fusion piece to a remix of Queen's We Will Rock You.
Though most of the dances were choreographed, they did perform one improvised piece.
At the end of the show, Christianna got her wish as all of the patrons were invited to don a scarf and learn a few moves.
Dancer Brandi McCorkle tied a royal blue scarf around Christianna's waist, and she shook her hips on Ms. Edwards' cue.
According to Ms. Feinberg, one more young adult program is scheduled during the summer reading program.
The Manga drawing class is scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday. Reservations are requested. For more information, call (706) 821-2600.
