Historical tours

The Augusta Museum of History has unveiled Preserving History: Behind the Scenes, an educational program designed to show visitors how the museum works to maintain its historical collections.

The guided tours will be held at 1 and 2 p.m. Saturdays through September. The museum is at 560 Reynolds St. Space is limited to 15 participants per session and participation is on a first-come, first-served basis. The tour is free with the cost of regular admission.

Free health fair

A free health fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Transformation United Methodist Church, 2428 Tobacco Road. There will be health screenings, food, school supplies and clothing.

Recycling day

There will be a free Electronics Recycle Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at the bus entrance at Fort Discovery, 1 Seventh St. Acceptable electronics items include computers, printers, fax machines and phones. Unacceptable items include televisions, electric ovens and microwave ovens.

Movie at library

A free screening of the movie Charlie Bartlett , rated R, will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the main branch of the Augusta Headquarters Library, 902 Greene St.

Insurance service

An investigator from the Office of Commissioner of Insurance will be available from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, July 25, at the Augusta-Richmond County Municipal Building, 530 Greene St., Room 605.

The free visit is offered for Georgia residents who have insurance problems or questions.

Docent training

The Morris Museum of Art is accepting applications for the 2008-09 docent training class, which will begin in late September.

The museum is looking for volunteers who enjoy art and are interested in working with people.

Any adult interested in becoming a docent may attend the Docent Social at 3 p.m. Aug. 27 at the museum, 1 10th St., or call Sarah Alexander, the associate curator for education and school programs, at (706) 828-3867.

Got student?

ASSE International Student Exchange Programs is seeking host families for foreign high school students. The students are 15 to 18 years old and are coming to the Augusta area for the upcoming semester or school year.

Volunteers needed

The U.S. Disaster Relief Command is looking for volunteers from the Augusta area. The organization works with the American Red Cross, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and others in disaster situations.
