MARIETTA, Ga. - Betty (Grossman) Isenberg, 85, died peacefully at the William Breman Jewish Home on July 16, 2008. Born in Savannah, she was the daughter of Oscar & Sarah Ruth (Kramer) Grossman, and spent her childhood in Brunswick, GA. She married Myer Jacob (Jake) Isenberg on February 13, 1942, on their third date, in New Orleans, en route to Fort Sam Houston where Jake was deployed to service in Europe. Betty returned to Brunswick, where she worked in the Naval Yard until Jake's return, at which time they settled briefly in Brunswick, where their children, Nancy & Walter, were born. They moved to Gordon, then settled in Augusta, where they ran a family shoe business. Betty's lifelong love, Jake, passed away in 1986, after which she remained in Augusta, was a member of Hadassah, Congregation Adas Yeshurun and its Sisterhood. She was a Life Master Championship Bridge player, who was known and adored by her relatives, extended family and enormous circle of friends, who will recall her striking white hair and sparkling blue eyes, ever-present smile and good nature. She was a vivacious, gracious, delightfully irreverent scotch-sipping Steel Magnolia who will be remembered and missed by so many. Her last nineteen months were especially treasured ones at The William Breman Jewish Home, where residents and caregivers became her cherished community. Survivors include Nancy Isenberg, Marietta, and Walter and Janet Isenberg of Augusta. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 17, at 11:00 AM at Magnolia Cemetery, 702 Third Street, Augusta, GA, with visitors welcome at Adas Yeshurun, 935 Johns Road, Augusta, at noon, and later that evening at the home of Sylvia Fogel & Maurice Kortick, Augusta. Shiva will resume at the home of Nancy Isenberg, Marietta, on Sunday evening at 8:00 PM, and continue Monday and Tuesday evenings at 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Betty's honor may be made to The William Breman Jewish Home or Weinstein Hospice, 3150 Howell Mill Road, Atlanta 30327, or Congregation B'nai Torah, 700 Mt. Vernon Highway, Atlanta 30328. Please sign online guestbook at www.edressler.com . Arrangements by Dressler's Jewish Funeral Care, 770-451-4999. Sign the guestbook at AugustaChronicle.com
