Ret. Educator AUGUSTA, Ga. - Entered into rest Saturday, July 12, 2008, Mrs. Lillian P. G. Gilchrist, 83, of Providence Drive. Funeral services will be conducted (today) Saturday, July 19, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. from Old Storm Branch Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Nathaniel Irvin officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The remains will lie in state at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service. The funeral procession will leave the residence at 10:15 a.m. Mrs. Gilchrist was a native of South Boston, Virginia. She attended Benedict College, Bettis Academy and South Carolina State University, where she earned both a Bachelor's and Master's degree in education. She was socially active with the Kappa Chapter of Tau Gamma Delta Sorority, Inc. and Richmond County Retired Educators Association, of which she held many positions to include president. She was a faithful member of Old Storm Branch Baptist Church, North Augusta, SC and Eastland Baptist Church, Augusta, where she sang with the choir and volunteered with the Willing Workers Missionary Society. Survivors are one daughter, Millicent G. Peek; one son, Roland Geter; three grandchildren, Bertram (Melanda) Peek, Charlene (William) Epps and Daniel Peek; six great grandchildren; two sisters, Thelma Alston and Wilma Alston; niece, Carolyn Richardson; two nephews, Jack Philpot and Kirklin Hankerson; godchild, Paula Johnson; a first cousin, Rosina Bain; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
