Eldridge Johnson (SPARTA, Ga.)

SPARTA, Ga. - Mr. Eldridge Johnson, 73 of Roy Lawrence Rd., Sparta, GA entered into rest July 8, 2008. He was the beloved husband of Margaret S. Johnson. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM, Friday, July 11, 2008 at the Knowles Chapel United Methodist Church in Hancock County with Rev. Charles Reese officiating. The body will lie in state one hour. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews. Mr. Johnson was born in Glascock County, grew up in Dearing, GA and lived in Sparta for the past 47 years. He was the son of the late Eulie Johnson and the late Lurene Newsome Johnson. Mr. Johnson served in the U. S. National Guard, the U. S. Army and the U.S. Navy. He was also a heavy equipment operator for Baldwin County for over 30 years. Survivors include his wife: Margaret S. Johnson, Sparta, GA; Son: Jimmy E. Johnson (Emma), Sparta, GA; Sister: Elvie Reese, Warrenton, GA; 6 Grandchildren; and 2 Great-Grandchildren; Brother-in-law: Seburn Johnson, Sparta, GA; Sister-in-law: Carrie Jo Mashburn (Johnny), Sparta, GA. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by a son, Johnny E. Johnson. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
