Good Job Dep. Hultman! I hope you were able to get some sleep after getting off 3hrs late because of the paperwork involved and waiting on Investigators and Owners to show up.
Investigators have two suspects behind bars, but they believe as many as six people might be responsible for stealing golf carts early Wednesday and then using them as getaway vehicles.
The suspects are thought to have entered Premier Transportation on Perkins Road sometime after midnight and used an on-site forklift to raise the fence surrounding the property, according to a Richmond County Sheriff's Office report.
Before leaving, it appears, they drove the six stolen carts into each other and damaged as many as seven other vehicles, according to authorities.
"It looks like they had a demolition derby before they left," said Lt. Tony Walden, who supervises the sheriff's property crimes division.
Deputy William Hultman spotted one of the suspects a short time later driving down Old Louisville Road in a green E-Z-Go golf cart, a sheriff's report states.
When the deputy tried to stop the suspect, later identified as Derrick Druell Long, 17, of the 1800 block of North Barton Drive, Mr. Long reportedly ran into the woods and was apprehended after a brief chase.
A 15-year-old was arrested later at his home, Lt. Walden said.
Two of the stolen golf carts were found not far from where the 17-year-old fled, and another was located at Southside Elementary School, the report states.
Police also recovered two carts in a wooded area near Apple Valley Drive.
Mr. Long is charged with obstruction of a law enforcement officer and theft by taking a motor vehicle, the report states.
The 15-year-old faces charges of theft by taking more than $500.
Lt. Walden said investigators are trying to determine the exact number of suspects, and more charges could be pending.

How stupid are these criminals, riding it down the road. What are the parents going to say when they wake up and find a golf cart in the yard? "Good job last night , did you bring anything home for me?"
Reality, the last sentence in your post is probably more true thanyou realize!
Sounds like an initiation......................
Great job!! More Augusta punks off the streets. Let's keep them there!!
Awwww, Come on! These are just boys being boys. Where's the harm? You mean to tell me you never did any B&E, or grand theft when you were little?
Look at that kids myspace page, he is not just a boy being a boy. He is claiming to be in gangs and such....I am glad to get these kids off the street and hopefully some positive influence from a positive role model, apparently they are not getting it at home!! How late were these kids out doing these thefts?
What a bunch of little punks.. hit em hard with the punishment .. make them wear signs in front of their school saying... "I steal and vandalize because I have no respect for myself or anyone else!!!!"
