*Sighs* if Dr. Welcher was so good for Laney why isn't his name among these.
Nine area educators were named "high performance principals," according to an announcement by Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue on Wednesday.
To receive the recognition, the principal must have been at the school for at least three consecutive years, data must show improvement at the school and the school system must recommend the principal for the honor. The following principals were recognized:
- Vicky D. Addison of John S. Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School
- Pamela A. Carmichael of Lincoln County Middle School
- Jeffrey L. Carney of Lakeside High School
- Janina C. Dallas of McBean Elementary School
- Judy Holton of Jenkins County Elementary School
- Hulet E. Kitterman of Louisville Academy
- Michelle H. Paschal of Stevens Creek Elementary School
- Claude Powell of Thomson Middle School
- Steven Rhodes of Norris Elementary School
Across the state, 112 educators were named to the list of high-performing principals.

I guess Welcher wasn't good enough to be recommend.and his school did not show any improvement. Columbia county could of recommend some other principals that are more deserving of this award, also schools that are more improved then Stevens Creek!
I agree with you goaliemom. In fact, Stevens Creek is what it is today because of the previous principal. Michelle Paschal had it all placed right in her lap when he left.
Way to go Coach Powell
jackfruitpaper833, get a life-- Dr. Welcher is doing his job. Go into the school and community and give some assistance. Use your mind and wisdom to improve the school and the community. Stop bad mouthing Dr. Welcher.

Congratulations Ms. Addison!
August49 - Although Dr. Oneill was a fine principal and did a good job. Mrs. Paschall has made it a great school. It is not as easy as saying it was placed in her lap, think again. When Dr. Oneill was principal there were only 600 students they now have 900. She has accomplished a great deal and is very well deserving of this award.
The School of Excellence award was awarded the year she took over as principal. Dr. Oneill worked hard for that. The school was in the process of being added on to when he left. CERTAIN teachers, and other employees who are there now and who were there years ago are the ones who worked hard. From my experiences with my own children there, Mrs. Paschal does things for show, but isn't really there for the children. I have a friend who has older children who used to go there, and she says that it used to be the most wonderful school in Columbia County, but not anymore. Believe me, go around and ask people who has children who USED to go to Stevens Creek. You'll hear the same thing as what I've just said. Then, go visit around at other schools, and you'll REALLY see how much better the children are treated at those other schools as opposed to Stevens Creek. It used to be considered the cadillac elementary school in Columbia County. They lost that status when Dr. O'Neill left.
still is the cadillac elementary school in CC, augusta49. what are some specific weaknesses at STC? i know what they are at GES, RES, RRE, and others in the same area; according to student achievement data, though, STC is highest in the area. i teach students that draw from RRE, RES, and STC and i can assure you that the best prepared students come from STC without question. sure, they have their share of duds like any school; but the majority of students from STC have their acts together as a result of the good teaching & administrating. just my opinion as a teacher - i'm sure all parents fondly remember a better time (i've only been in county for 10 years now).
So, you're saying that the best students come from South Coumbia Elementary????
At Stevens Creek, money talks!!!! Alot of things involving unruly students have been overlooked or swept under the rug and not reported because of who the principal's husband is. He protects that school from the media. And....certain students get special treatment because of how much money their parents give to the school. My neighbors have assured me of that. They are one of it's many benefactors. Wonder where all that money goes???? Also, MANY students who can't even pass English are sitting in Spanish. By the way....SCES is not STEVENS CREEK. STC is STEVENS CREEK. Shouldn't you know that?????
augusta49 your last post is right on the money! Paschal only writes and reports on the good not the bad at SCE,but boy he's right there to write and report about other schools and their principal's. A little one sided wouldn't ya say?
Exactly!!! Lots of things have happened at that school. Things that should have had the police out there, and NOTHING gets reported. I know this first hand, because some things have happened in my child's class and it involved a student who's family is very close to mine.
How can things that need to be reported to the police...Not get reported? She has to report certain issues. If not she could be in alot of trouble. Has anyone taken this to Mr.Nagel?
Taking things to Nagel is like taking them to Tommy Price. Paschal does what she wants to. No matter how many knives are brought in the school, no matter how many fights have taken place or how many threats have been made. That is a school that goes untouched and she is a principal who goes untouched.
I think riverside is the worst school in columbia county.
Well, all of the schools each have their problems, but Stevens Creek has and has had lots of problems that no one will ever know about.
Well then the parents need to stand up and be heard! Go over (Paschal's head) and start complaining. If no one says anything it's not going to get any better. Believe me Nagel will listen if the parents bring it to him,I know this first hand.
lots of parents have complained over her head. NOTHING has ever been done!! It's really sad. People "think" that Stevens Creek is such a wonderful school, when in fact, it's the exact opposite. It's all about money, and it's all about "other people" making Paschal look like she's such a great administrator. It's really sad. Believe me, there are ALOT of angry parents.
Augusta49 and Goaliemom1987: Demonstrate the courage of your convictions by signing your names to your complaints. It's easy for you to lie about Stevens Creek, my wife and me while you hide behind a phony screen name, but it's nice to know that the truth always wins. Michelle has received this award as a tribute to the achievements of STC for three years in a row. I'm sorry the success there makes you feel like you have to stoop to such envy.
Believe me.....there is NO lie....and DEFINITELY NO envy!!
Do you think that I would be stupid enough to sign my name??
My children attend that school and I wouldn't put them in that awkward position to be retaliated upon. But....don't think for one second that I didn't go to Tommy Price.
It has nothing to do with "COURAGE" who on these boards sign their real names? It's called a display name and we use them so we can say things without being retaliated on.Alot of us work for the county so do you really think we would sign our name? You can show your name because you can write what you want too.
Well said Goalie!!!!
Thank you "augusta49" !
I hope you two don't strain yourselves patting your own backs. Without your name signed to your complaints, and with your references to second- and third-hand information and pure, outlandish conjecture (I especially like how augusta49's "neighbors" were able to "assure" him of something, but the rest of us aren't able to verify that, are we?), your complaints have no credibility and reflect only a destructive, negative attitude. For the sake of your children, augusta49, if they really do attend STC, I hope they bring a better outlook to the classroom than you've demonstrated here and aren't likewise poisoned with such negativity. It's pretty clear that you're predisposed to blaming everyone else when you have difficulties, and I'm afraid no school is going to be able to fix that problem for you.
In case you didn't read what I had written.....I DID go to Tommy Price along with many other angry parents. Therefore....my name WAS signed on paper. In this column, we all have the right to speak without having to sign our names. And yes, my children REALLY DO go to Stevens Creek. And no, this was NOT THIRD HAND INFORMATION that I received. My child WAS in a class where there were lots of problems.....including a knife brought to school. YOUR information comes in the form of second and third hand because you are also not there to witness what is going on in that school. When your wife comes home and tells you things, that is not FIRST HAND info. And when MY CHILD comes home scared and crying, THAT is not my display of negativity. There are many good things about Stevens Creek, but there are also many bad things there. THAT is what the public is kept in the dark about. And NO, I don't blame everyone else when there are difficulties. People just aren't so stupid as to think that Stevens Creek is the school that it's made out to be. There are lots of things that aren't taken care of in the way that they should be. We can go back and forth all you want.
Well, I have no desire to "go back and forth" with you, augusta49, especially if you've set your negative attitude in stone. But I would suggest you consider the possibility that if you took your concern(s) to the superintendent and "nothing happened," then perhaps in their judgment your concerns did not warrant further action. Just because you are convinced you are correct doesn't mean everyone or anyone else agrees. It also is very likely that if your concern(s) were addressed, you would not be told the outcome because that would be a violation of employee confidentiality. Likewise - and this is important - parents generally are not told the outcome of disciplinary actions against students other than their own because that, too, would be a violation of confidentiality rules. The latter reality often leads to parents having the mistaken impression "nothing is done" about a complaint simply because they aren't told what HAS been done. The fact is that things ARE done - it's just that you aren't, and can't, be told about it.
So, you're saying that your wife doesn't tell you ANYTHING about ANY STUDENT? Come on now, tell the truth.
