Take heed Mr Cain.
I would like to suggest that guest columnist Matthew Rothschild ("Why I'm not patriotic," July 4) take his animus against patriotism to a nice liberal country such as North Korea, China, Syria, Zimbabwe or Venezuela, where they really appreciate his particular anti-nationalistic venom.
And when he goes, he should take with him the idiot who decided that we needed to be exposed to that particular diatribe on our nation's birthday. That was the worst piece of journalistic judgment I have ever seen.

Take heed Mr Cain.
Cain and Gumby, pack your bags.
Amen and again I say "Amen"..L.A. Heinrich
Another BIG AMEN!!!!!!!!!
AMEN!! Larry.
The 5 knuckledraggers above obviously don't know the difference between a patriot and a nationalist. They are raving nationalists masquerading as patriots. And they are intent on enforcing their own brand of political correctness.
great LTTE.
As much as I disagree with the content, America needs people who vocally rant and rail against the government. I find it distasteful and unpatriotic, but a society that only speaks in support of government is not a free society. Our founding fathers were repressed in speech and worship. Love it or leave it was the cry of the 60's generation. Political correctness is asinine. America is strong because it allows people to dissent without government recriminations. It's sad America's citizens can only attack those with differing views instead of trying to learn, understand, and co-exist with those who are different from us.
Cain, they know the difference between a traitor and a Patriot. And they know which one you are.
It is one thing to speak out against certain actions of the government, which we all should do, and it is quite another to show such vile disrespect that they seek "comfort" with the enemy and always place the US in the blame. I certainly do not agree with everything our government does, and think certain groups have our country pointing in the wrong direction. However, I love this country (I served for well over 20 years) and will defend her to my last dying breath (as I swore to do for over 20 years). But to see others speak with such a poison tongue towards this country and spread their message of "hate" is like seeing a cancer slowly spread. This country has been through many ups and downs over her short history, and although we may in a down period, our country has the heart and resilience to rise to greatness again. Their are those that truly do hate America, and hide under the guise of the first amendment and saying they are patriotic by speaking out. It is one thing to speak out, it is another to viciously attack with such vile and cancerous statements and accompanying actions.
You could easily argue that Synergy and JRHC have an agenda of enforcing their own brand of political correctness too. I hope they are not nationalist for the nation-state, but believe in a nation of states. You could argue also that the states losing their powers over time has produced a nationalist govt because it is all about the state. The founding fathers intent was not a strong and large centralized govt. but a collective of strong states. The states were best poised to deal with local matters. The civil war was mainly over states rights-slavery was considered as one of the rights.
LOL..Cain reminds me of the people who scream "Stop them police" then when they are in trouble they become the most vocal for "Wh'ea be da police?"
Ahh, but those 5 would, more than likely, stand armed to protect this nation. What would you do, JRHC? My guess? Roll over and play dead. True patriots defend their country, JRHC. They don't try to change it into and pattern it after, another country who'd beliefs are completely the opposite of our own and they damn sure don't down it every chance they get. We've all seen the effects of what you support. We've seen them in Cuba, Zimbabwe, Russia, and any other Socialist "paradise" out there. They fail, every time. Are you a patriot? I'd have to say hell no.
No No..JRHC would probably counsel a rape victim to "stop resisting and learn to enjoy it" to eliminate Rape as a Crime.

I find that those that choose to attack others by using personal attack instead of commenting about the message to get their point across have no real opinion and must attack the person.
United States government does use torture. Who among you has spoken out against that abhorrent practice? I have written for the last 5 years that the U.S. war of aggression in Iraq will divide this nation more deeply & more bitterly than the Vietnam war did. You see the vitriol expressed by most posters above against someone who tells them the U.S. war in Iraq was unnecessary. It is immoral, illegal, unwinnable, counterproductive to U.S. interest & will lead to political, economic & military defeat for this country unless we change course. United States government is falsely claiming success in the surge & progress in Iraq, but it cannot deny that the situation has deteriorated in Afghanistan. Nuclear armed Pakistan has become more of a trouble spot. An analysis by Matthew Lee of The Associated Press concludes "The United States & Iran appear on a collision course in the Middle East, firing off mixed messages that are raising world tension & roiling oil markets amid fears that an eventual confrontation may be military." Where are our statesmen? Iran has offered to negotiate with United States. President Bush has refused to talk with Iran. American machismo has failed. It is time to use our brains and well as our brawn to solve international disputes. Technology has made us lethal, but it hasn't made us wise.
Cain, how much do you weigh? Just want to know just how big an idiot are you.
Cain, you have yet to prove that it is illegal. Again, in case you forgot, Congress voted to allow the President to use force. Because you say it is illegal and your reasoning is not valid, would not hold up in the court of law, and if it was do you not think the President would already be brought up for impeachment? The war is winnable, and Iraq is turning the corner for the better. Even John Murtha admits as much, one who like you said that our service members are wantonly "killing women and children". Sorry Cain, your arguments are not held by the majority, but a very small far left minority. Political, economic, and military defeat? Again prove the point with facts. Our political system is strong and will survive any adersity, our economy is resilient and will rise again, and our military only loses when politics get in the way. The Defeatist Cain has declared our country in a losing situation, therefore he thinks our society will go the way of the Roman Empire. He should be reminded that the Roman Empire was first destroyed from within, just as Cain and his anti American far left fringe pessimists are taking comfort with the enemy and declaring America evil.
RJH, have you not figured it out yet----Cain has no facts, just Bullshieet!
giveitsomethought, there is a fine line. Cain constantly states his opinion as fact, begs the issue, and flat out lies. He hates the United States.
The war was unnecessary but ousting Saddam was not. We didn't need the big stick. Attacking Afghanistan wasn't very strategic either. The Taliban has success because the people have nothing. If we had spent the money aiding the Afghan people then likely they may have helped us find bin Laden and the Taliban would have loss influence. We would still had to militarily defeated the Taliban, but that is only half the job. Negotiating with the Iranian govt is like negotiating with Saddam. It is a waste of time and just gives them strength by duping us again. We need a policy of regime change for Iran to free their oppressed people. They need a secular govt instead of a theocratic govt.
It would be nice to see the future and not have to look back and "what if".
the only reason so called american machismo has failed , as you put it, is we have to have the permission of every noodle backed wimpy pansy on record before we can back up the machismo with some action. soldires fight5 wars, monday morning quarterbacks like cain need to find another hobby...i frankly don't give a damn about his mindless, blabberings, he is anti american, he is against anything that protects our interests, and is against anything resembling a sense of nationalism....i wish he would drop dead.....
Torture is unacceptable according to Article 5 of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Signatories of the Third Geneva Convention and Fourth Geneva Convention agree not to torture protected persons (POWs and enemy civilians) in armed conflicts. Torture is also prohibited by the United Nations Convention Against Torture, which has been ratified by 145 states. Amnesty international claims 75% of all governments practice torture (all of which belong to the U.N.). Hmmm, I note a little hypocrisy. Amnesty international mentions accusations and concerned acts against political prisoners in 70 countries and other prisoners and detainees in more than 130 countries. All countries deny the use of torture just like Saddam. Torture is illegal according to Islamic law yet the Taliban in Afghanistan and also Saudi Arabia often use torture and it is well documented. Torture is wrong and declared illegal but what do you do to stop what is a common practice throughout the world. Rape and child pedophilia both qualify as torture, but it is not a capital punishment offense according to the SCOTUS because it is not lethal. Torture is an unenforceable offense without any teeth to deterrence.
Biz, you are right about state rights. One reason I no longer respect the R party anymore than the D party is because it has become all about big spending and centralized government. They may spend in different ways, but they spend, and they both want to control things. When I read that Bush's administration did not want to allow Gov Arnold in CA to have his way with the environmental laws there (and he is a R himself, but he just gets that something needs to be done about pollution) but to follow their too slow guidelines.
We need to show the writer of this letter the door. He believes in arresting people for speaking out against the government's policies. We also need to show the flag-waving racists the door as well.
The great irony will be we will have to overthrow our own govt just to re-establish it.
We need to relocate williston to idiotville.
willis, where did he say that?
willistontownsc, You are double minded. Freedom also means tolerance of communist, fascist, and racist to speak out. You don't have to listen or like it, but they have the right to be so inclined.
