NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. - Funeral Services for Mr. William Eugene Blitchington, Jr., 96, of West Arlington Heights, North Augusta, SC who entered into rest July 6, 2008 at his residence after an extended illness, will be conducted Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock from Grace United Methodist Church. Dr. James C. Adams, Dr. T. Joseph Lusk and Dr. John M. Newell, III, officiating. Interment in Pineview Memorial Park Mr. Blitchington was born July 17, 1911, in Augusta, GA. He was the son of the late William Eugene Blitchington and Gertrude Henning Blitchington. Also preceding him in death were his siblings Frank H. Blitchington, Sr., Margaret B. Brandt, Louise B.Comstock and John A. Blitchington. He was a graduate of the Academy of Richmond County, Augusta College and the Augusta Business College. A life-long resident of this area, he moved to North Augusta in 1940. He was employed as traffic and credit manager at Fine Products Corp. from the 1943 until the company's closure. He then worked for Audio-Visual Associates until the early 1990's retiring at the age of eighty-four. Long-time North Augusta residents will remember him as a night clerk at Peoples Drugs, where he was employed over forty years. He joined Grace Church in 1940 and served in a number of capacities including church treasurer. He was a member of the Etheredge Bible Class. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Mary Linson Blitchington; three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Robert Graybill, Brenda and William Skipper and Beverly and David Blevins, all of North Augusta; four grandchildren, William R. Graybill, Jr., Lexington, SC, Wesley M. Graybill, Columbia, SC, Cynthia Smith, Allendale, SC and Paul Blevins, North Augusta; five great-grandchildren, Andrew Graybill, Ian Graybill, Adam Graybill, William Graybill and Miranda Graybill; a sister, Betty B. Purcell, Covington, GA; a number of nieces and nephews. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Etheredge Bible Class. Active Pallbearers will be William Graybill, Wesley Graybill, William Brandt, Michael Purcell, Gerald Knoff and James Bellinger. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this Tuesday evening from 7 until 9.
