Guns in restaurants explosive idea

  • Follow Letters

I want to know what idiot in his right mind made it legal to carry concealed weapons into restaurants and buisnesses . When did restraunts become so threatening that you feel you have to be armed?

As a person who works in the service industry, I feel the idiot just made my job more dangerous. I never thought I had to worry about getting shot because someone does not like his food, or the fact that I refuse to serve someone a drink because he doesn't have an ID.

I know that sounds farfetched, but let's be real. I have been in the industry for 20-plus years and I have seen people get real upset about their food. I wish these idiots would open their eyes and come back to the real world and think about how many innocent lives they just put in jeopardy.

Besides obviously being unable to spell, Mr. Newman- no relation to my deceased paternal grandmother I hope- is almost equally obviously unable to think. Could he think that his customers have been awaiting the passage of this law before they'd carry a weapon into the RESTAURANT- the BUSINESS- where he works? Finally, Mr. Newman obviously doesn't work in a Waffle House on third shift on the weekends. Or, if he is employed there then, is he too busy composing letters to the editor to notice the bulges in his customers' clothing?

Bood one Newman.....we all know that those who want to kill people in resturants were all waiting until it was legal t cary the gun in, before they committed murder. They were afraid of getting busted on a misdemeaner of carrying in an unauthorized area while they commit their felony. Good grief.

I tell what you do Mr. Newman. Go ask the people that were at Luby's cafe in Texas, the Mcdonalds in San Ysidro or how about Virginia Tech or at the mall in Minnesota or better yet the people that were in the DFACS building in North Augusta. I bet they wish someone would have been carrying a concealed weapon. If it makes one crazy idiot change their mind about shooting innocent people in public places and someone's family member gets to go home safely.....it's worth it to me.

SoonerorLater

The ones who this law would affect have already gone through an extensive background check and obtained a permit to carry a concealed weapon. Thus this law is meant for law obiding citizens, not the thugs who carry weapons on a daily basis (stolen weapons, since they could not purchase one legally). I completely agree with wyldsfam4, one good citizen with a weapon could have saved many lives in the situations he describes.

Mr. Newman, those "idiots" as you say were our founding fathers who documented our right to keep and bear arms.

I too, was thinking about the tragedy at Luby's in Killeen Tx as I read Mr. Newman's LTE. As I recall, there was a young woman in there with her parents. Either one of both of her parents were killed. The young woman, being a law abiding citizen, had left her hadgun in the car. If she had not, the story may have had a better ending. Hope Mr. Newman takes a chance to read these comments and get a dose of common sense.

Mr. Newman is one of the SHEEPLE who would just sit there and die in a crisis. He is scared becasue this REEKS of people wanting RESPONSIBILITY for their lives. Sadly he is part of a growing number of total idiots who buy the Government line.

Newman, it is amazing you have enought brain cells to tell your body to breathe.

Grinder

Newman is off the mark. The people licensed to carry have had GBI background checks and are not the criminals. Now the criminals need to think long and hard about robbing (or whatever) a restaurant and harming its employees or patrons. I, or someone like me, or even multiple concealed gun carriers, may just be sitting there enjoying a meal ...

weekapaug05

This is another dude that thinks guns kill people. Guns don't kill people the person holding the gun kills. You can kill someone with a knife, a pen, a rope, or your barehands all of which you can carry into any restaurant. Heck most restaurants give you a knife. Why is it that folks think that when you own a gun you're just walking around killing folks like it's a GTA game?

Just_Visiting

It's already been proven through many studies that arming people with guns does not prevent violence from occurring. It's nothing more than an escalation device. I know you carry so I carry a gun more lethal.

Retired Army is so correct...

Hey David, ever heard of a little place called "Luby's", hotrod?

Signal Always

You're right, RetiredArmy, and if they start allowing us a bag-limit on liberals, we'll be in hog-heaven.

Doesn't the new law stipulate that the gun owner with the concealed weapon permit cannot have the weapon on him if he's intoxicated? Question. How can Mr. Newman be sure that a drunken redneck isn't packing? That's my big concern with this law: mixing stupidity with firearms, testosterone and alcohol. I can't recall any instance in which this mixture ever improrved a restaurant's cooking or service. A chalk outline on the floor, however, has put more than one Augusta restaurant out of business. Of course guns don't kill people. It's all those gaping wounds.

frankclark

Good one, Dr. Spinks. I am certain that this moron is of no relation to you. The drift of this article is that everyone has been waiting to be able to carry guns in restaurants, and that if the food is no good they have the right to use them. Once again, the AC has printed a letter that is stupid and not worth the ink on the paper. The last paragraph seems to have been written by a child.

RAWR

I would like to refer you misinformed to this page which shows all of the states who allow what Georgia passed into law. Where are all of the news articles of people legally carrying guns into restaurants that shoot someone over not liking their food, or while being intoxicated(in some states its legal to tote and drink)? http://www.georgiacarry.org/cms/about/prohibited-places/?page_id=3&data_...

RAWR

Or how about the articles where people have already carried to restaurants in Georgia that did not serve alcohol. Where they didn't like the food and started shooting the place up. Oh they do not exist .... so it would be hard. Your logic is flawed!

griesella

I would say that there will be NO more guns in restaurants now than there was before. Some folks just have to whine about something.

bone

good thing handguns aren't legal in movie theaters - i still can't believe i chose to go to a public theater yesterday - or some jack[filtered word] that answered his cellphone 5 times during the film might have gotten ventilated. LOL (sort of)

RAWR

Why do you believe handguns are not legal in movie theatres? It is the moronic mentality of people like bone, if he even carries, that gives the rest of us who tote a bad name. I carry and I know the consequences to me and to others if I unlawfully use my firearm. The only reason to use my firearm is to prevent a forcible felony happening to me or family and friends. Not because someone answered his cellphone during a movie. Not because I did not enjoy my food.

RAWR

"How can Mr. Newman be sure that a drunken redneck isn't packing?" Well if that drunken redneck is packing ... I would assume he would be breaking the law and that would make him a criminal.

God save America

maybe if the mad customer had had a gun he might have used it. so if a robber comes in someplace with a gun to rob it and a gun carrying person decides to try to have a shootout how many other people will get shot. this is a very bad law. if you are going to tote a gun you should learn how to shoot it and be made to go to ranges thah teach classes about guns.

1. You've been serving food to us in restaurants for all 20 years of your career and not ONCE has a Georgia Firearms License holder used his weapon to harm anyone anywhere in the state....regardless of how bad the food was!
2. As GFL holders are honest, law abiding citizens, they will not be ordering a drink while carrying in your establishment...because it's against the law and we obey the law.
3. Restaurants have been the scene of a HUGE number of felony murders, beatings and hostage situations. I guess you've just been lucky for 20 years and haven't had the time to read a newspaper.
4. Your "innocent life" is in "jeopardy" every minute of your life including while you're working in the service industry. But, the risk is not from we law abiding, honest GFL holders. Take the time to read a newspaper or watch the evening news most any day of the week.
5. The only "idiots" involved in this discussion are those who use emotion, ignorance and fear as tools to come to an unsubstantiated and incorrect opinion.

bone

trulyelite, you misrepresent my mentality; yours, however, is clear to everyone. please try and not take yourself so seriously all the time and relax about your right to pack heat. i'm sure you'll do what you deem necessary and appropriate the next time you are faced with preventing a forcible felony. i will endeavor to not go to public theaters carrying a weapon if i believe that i am capable of doing something as rash as threatening violence against someone because they lack common courtesy (or, judging from today's diversity postings, maybe i lack the sensitivity to understand that in that person's culture answering a cellphone during a movie in a public theater is perfectly acceptable).

HYPOCRITES 08

When was the last time someone walked into Red Lobster and shot up the place? Now they want to carry them in airport, why ? Maybe you will get mugged in the boarding line. You should have a right to carry a firearms within limits. I guess there is a study somewhere that says you have a great chance of getting robbed while preparing to board Delta?

God save America

it's going back to the days in the old west when you have to .check you guns at the door. back in old west there was a lot back shootings this could happen now there is a man who says he has been carrying a gun for two years and has dropped it and kicked it before . this really does not make me feel safe because a gun can go off if dropped.

RAWR

I wish I had the time to stay and debate all of your issues and misconceptions. But work calls.

HYPOCRITES 08

I own several weapon, but to listen to some on here I think we should go back to the old days, strap on our holsters and just show those criminals that we are ready for them. I guess I will order more takeout because I have seen what alcohol and guns will do for you.
