SYLVANIA, Ga. - Anne Hudmon Reed, age 96, died Friday, July 4, 2008 at her home in Sylvania. She was born April 15, 1912 in Opelika, AL. She was the daughters of the late William Earle and Katie Belle Hopson Hudmon. She moved with her family to Sylvania in 1921. In 1933 she graduated Cum Laude from Agnes Scott College with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She was chosen for membership in Phi Beta Kappa in 1933. She was the first resident of Screven County to be named by Agnes Scott to this scholastic society. After graduation she taught at Coffee High School in Florence, AL and returned to Sylvania in 1948 with her husband, David W. Reed and two sons, William and Charles. She held membership for over 60 years in the Brier Creek Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, serving as Regent. She was a member of the Sylvania Women's Club, the Screven County Reading Group (G.R.I.T.S.), Friends of the Screven County Library, the Thursday Bridge Club, (Ye Olde Bridge Club). She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church and the Philathea Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her Husband of sixty-one years: David W. Reed; Sister: Katherine Hudmon Gillis of Soperton; Daughter- In-Law: Susan Moseley Reed. Survivors: Sons and Daughters- In-Law: William Hudmon Reed and Shelia Dickey Reed of Charlottesville, VA and Charles David Reed and Marsha Zeagler Reed of Sylvania; Four Grandchildren: Thomas Reed and Dr. Nevada Reed of Hudson, OH, Doctors Robert and Anna Reed of Biltmore MD, David A. Reed of Atlanta, GA and Christie Reed Faries and Stephen Faries of Augusta; 5 Great-Grandchildren; Identical Twin Sister: Mary Hudmon Simmons of Sylvania; Several Nieces and Nephews. Visitation: Monday, July 7, 2008, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral Services: Tuesday, July 8, 2008, 10:00 AM, at Sylvania First Baptist Church with Rev. Lonnie Norris officiating. Burial at Screven County Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers: Robert Reed, David Reed, Stephen Faries, Stephen Ragains, Danny Ledbetter and Joel Corvera; Honorary Pallbearers: Members of the Brier Creek DAR, The Philathea Sunday School Class of Sylvania First Baptist Church and Girls Reading in the South (G.R.I.T.S.) book club.
