METASVILLE, Ga. - Mr. Joe Leonard Charping, 80, of Metasville, died July 2, 2008 in his home. He was a native of Elbert County and the son of the late A.O. Charping and Blanche Conwell Charping and the stepson of the late Annie Richardson. Mr. Charping was a self employed brick mason and a cattle farmer. He was a member and deacon of Rehoboth Baptist Church, the Cattlemans Association and past president and member of Memory Lane Cruisers Antique Car Club. He served in the military during the Korean War. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 4th at 10:00am in Rehoboth Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Rayner and Rev. Leonard Dupree officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Charles Rhodes, Sr., Kerry McAvoy, Sr., Smythe Newsome, Tommy Thaxton, Stanley Wheatley, Herman Wheatley, Tom Wiggins, and Hartrell Pate will serve as pallbearers. Gene Stevens, Buzzy Randall, Newton Gunter, Shane Gunter and Lee Thaxton will serve as honorary pallbearers. Survivors include his wife, Anne Frazer Charping; son and daughter in law, Joe Thomas and Donna Crawford Charping, Washington; daughter and son in law, JoAnn and Brian Keith Baldwin, Washington; Grandchildren, Amanda Lili Charping, Milledgeville, Joe Christopher Charping, Washington, Laura Baldwin Seabolt, Augusta and Joseph Brian Baldwin, Evanston, Ill; and sister in law, Mary Charping, Taylors, SC. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7-9pm at Hopkins Funeral Home.
