Chronicle' seeks submissions for singer-songwriter competition

  • Follow Music

All right, songwriters, summer vacation is over. Time to bust open that satchel of songs and once again roll those numbers for the seventh annual Augusta Chronicle Singer-Songwriter competition.

The rules are simple. We're looking for original music written and performed by Augusta-area residents. Submissions are due by 5 p.m. Aug. 1, and last year's winner (I'm talking to you, Dew Hickies) is ineligible to enter. Submissions will be accepted in either mp3 or CD formats; any genre will be accepted.

Six finalists will be chosen, three by popular vote and three critics' picks. Finalists will perform a 15-minute set in front of a panel of judges Friday, Sept. 19, at the Arts in the Heart of Augusta festival. The winner will receive $400 and the traditional big box of CDs. Second place receives $200 and third, $100.

Finalists will also have their entries filmed live before the finals and posted online.

Entries can be sent to: Steven Uhles, The Augusta Chronicle , 725 Broad St., Augusta, GA 30901 or e-mailed to steven.uhles@augusta
