wine time: Alianca Vinho Verde

  • Follow Things to Do

WHAT: It's a nice, simple, straight-forward white blend from northwest Portugal. Though it is not a sparkling wine, it does have a spritzy feel in the mouth. The taste is lip-smacking crisp, almost austere, with tinges of apple. Serve it well-chilled.

GOES WITH: At this price you can experiment and try the wine with all kinds of things. I think it goes well with mild-tasting seafood, chicken or a pasta salad. It's an outstanding wine for a picnic, whether you're having fried chicken or something on the grill. Low in alcohol (9 percent), it won't overpower lighter foods. On a hot day it's a refreshing wine all by itself.
