AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Dorothy Benton West, 90, widow of the late Joseph Henry West, entered into rest on Sunday, June 29, 2008 at Doctors Hospital. Funeral services will be held today Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at 10:00 AM at Pierce Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bob Hoeller officiating. Burial will follow at Pierce United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mrs. West, a member of Pierce United Methodist, was very well known in the community for entertaining with skits and her devotion to her church work. She considered major accomplishments to be trust in God, devotion to family, church and community service and development of the Archive Room and Cemetery Historical Documentation for Pierce Memorial UMC. She graduated from the Tubman School for Young Ladies. She will be remembered as a loving mother, who was dedicated to her family. She enjoyed people, and had many special friendships. She is survived by her three sons, Donald Joseph West of Thomasville, GA., William T. West and wife, Maria, of Chester, S.C., and Ronald Marvin West, her daughter, Patricia Watson and husband, Kenneth, of Martinez, 8 grandchildren, Kate West, Augusta West, Louisa Patton, Adam Outlaw, Peter West, Eva Rose West , Eli West, and Alan DuPas. She is also survived by 3 great grandchildren, a special niece, Carolyn Edison, and many other nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Adam Outlaw, Peter West, Eli West, Alan Du Pas, Barry White, and Michael Jones.
