Enough is enough -- drill for oil now

  • Follow Letters

I saw Barack Obama a few days ago, on television, and he is just as much a Froot Loop as the rest of those radical environmental groups that he claims to represent.

He said gasoline is not too high; it just went up too fast. Gasoline will be more than $7 per gallon within two years. Obama said he doesn't want oil at any price, and he doesn't want nuclear at all, nor does he want coal, but there is no other timely solution, no matter what the radical environmentalists may tell you.

The only other choice is to drill and drill now. If it takes 15 years, then Obama and his radical friends are 15 years too late. This is a desperate situation perpetrated by the Sierra Club and other radical environmental groups. I was a member of the Sierra Club. Barack Obama and the other liberals are the enforcers for these radical environmental groups, and the result is unimaginable grief for the American people.

These people cannot and will not help you. Only you can help you. Drill here, drill now and forget the Sierra Club.

If you order a drilling rig TODAY, it will be delivered in 7 years. How are you going to drill now? It's election time man, you know when the Pols. lie more than usual.

Although I am not an Obama backer he IS a backer of nuclear And clean coal. You need to do a little reading before you write.

Milton Gresham is an oil addict. He needs a fix baaaaad.

I don't know how these environmentalists live. Do they not live in houses made with wood from trees and materials that require energy for production? Maybe they live in grass or stone huts. If so, they are going to have the naturalists on their case for disturbing the lay of the land! Do they not drive cars or ride other mechanized transportation that requires energy to operate? Do they live close enough to their work place so they can walk? Maybe they ride an animal! If that is the case, the animal eats natural resources and excretes waste that produces methane and pollutes the air! If so, they risk the anger of People for The Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)! After all, using an animal for transportation is making the animal work, and PETA says that is cruelty to animals. If the democrats had allowed us to expand our own oil & nuclear resources over a decade ago, we probably wouldn't be in this fix!

Those three would probably be Snap, Crackle and Pop.

I'm not for destroying the environment but we americans have spent the last 30 years without an energy policy in this country. Not drilling for oil, not building refineries and not advancing nuclear energy have caught up with us and unlike the metric system I learned in school - we need these things. At some point we have to get realistic and start protecting our economy and country. Oil is where our best technology is today - get the pipes flowing so we can survive while new technologies are developed. It's been thirty years - why can't we make nuclear energy safer? Apparantly even the French are ahead of us on this count - if that ain't sad I don't know what is.

Tom ga hunter, Obama is also proposing the highest income tax increase since 1932. I dont know about you, but if you work, you must agree that your bring home pay is the single most important day to day issue that affects your family. Only thing I can figure is those who back him are planning on living on way less bring home money or depending on his welfare programs to support them. Which one are you?

Ga Values

SC DAWG I am not a Obama backer, please read before you write,, Obama=4 more years of Carter,, McCain=4 more years of Bush,, Bob Barr= NONE OF THE ABOVE, less bad than the other 2..A vote for either of those 2 turkeys is a vote shot to hell.

S.C. Dawg

Tom, my bad, I understand your comments. But I dont think Barr has a prayer of getting elected, and a vote for him will wind up helping the worse of the two turkeys, Fast Eddie Obama.

Ga Values

SC DAWG.. OK if my ballot says Bob Barr(actually a vote for Obama) then I will not vote. By the way I am retired so the tax oncrease on people making over $250,000 will only have a small effect on me. I am happy you will be effected by this tax because it means you are making a lot of money. Why didn't the Republicans make the tax cuts perminent when during their 6 years of complete "control" of the federal Government?

fredinaiken

t.q.h. why do you think it takes 7 years to have an oil drill rig delivered? Same reason it takes ten years to build a power reactor in the US? (We built the SRP reactors in about a year each when the federal government was on our side!) A bunch of %#*& silly tree-hugger regulations causing these deadly delays?

dani

I think that an energy policy was approved in 2005 and Obama voted FOR the bill saying it was a great plan.

stillamazed

I read today where people in North Dakota are becoming millionaires finding oil in their backyards(Yahoo.com). I say that we need to go after the oil right here at home, the heck with the the enviromentalist, we can drill for oil and still protect the environment, we put men on the moon so we should be able to do that. When we attack Iran we better have a back up plan or we will all be riding our bikes..........

Personally, I can't stand poltics. Everyone saying what they need to say in order to garner the most votes. Everyone hashas their own facts and opinion. Yes, Obama will increase taxes. It will be the biggest in a very long time. No it won't affect most taxpayers since we don't make $250K. McCain will work to reduce healthcare costs for buisnesses and citizens. It is a long overdue project. Yes it will now cost you more to insure your family since about two-thirds of your medical costs are paid for by your job and more jobs are doing away with employer sponsored health care. No matter who you want to beleieve the truth is things will not "Change" quickly. Each side will always fight the other. There is still a heaven and Hell. That fight has been going on since before time began. No one has eliminated the other yet.

fd1962, how do you know Milton even likes Bush, Cheney or Rummy? You know him personally or just spewing your usual diarrhea of the key board? I know him persoanlly and I doubt he likes any of them any more than I do.

jack

Tom, a vote for bob Barr is a vote flushed. I don't like McCain either, but he is the lesser of the two evils. McCain will not nominate more Ginsbergs, Stevens, and Souters to the SCOTUS. Osama will nominate even worse. I believe this to be of the utmost importance even greater than the energy crisis the DIMs have put us in.

Obama was correct when he said it is not like all the oil the big companies get from the coasts will go to America. It will just be added to their overall supply, and the estimates are it would not be just a fraction of what they are already getting elsewhere, so it would only reduce prices by a small fraction. Some regulations may be over the top true, but no regulations could mean people running around being radiated by nuclear power plants, or having oil covering their backyards. Some companies will self govern themselves and make things safe for the long run, but some do not care about beyond next tuesday, and will build the cheapest, quckest things they can for fastest, biggest profit now (thanks to presidents jumping around from company to company and shareholders only investing short term in these companies many people do not have long term interest...ie...they could care less if something awful happened and said company failed three years down the road).

jack

I agree with Milton on this one (I don't usually), as the DIMs have been blocking Republican efforts to drill our own oil consistently even when Republican were in control of Congress with their filibusters. I realize the Repubs didn't have the cajones to over ride them, as they never knew how to really take control. They could stand taking som elesson from the DIMs, only not to waste tax peyers money with useless hearings.

imdstuff don't know dstuff. If oil companies would be as reckless as you say in expanding with drilling and refining here in the US, how is it that no gulf platforms leaked a drop during Katrina? How is it that the French or Germans, who depend heavily on nukes for electricity aren't "radiated"? Those that would build nuclear plants know full well that safety is paramojnt not only for the environment, but for their employees if no others. .

imdstuf

I will tell you why Jack, because there are regulations that they did follow. My point was there are some in power that sometimes do not have scrupals. Look at some of the people that headed Tyco, Enron, etc you see getting into trouble. I do not like government having too much power, but as I got out of college and into the real world I learned just letting prvate companies run things totally how they see fit is not always a good thing. Some regulation is needed unfortunately. I could argue us citizens could police ourselves with vigilante justice as easily as you could say businesses would police themselves for their own good.

Johnny Chimpo

if we even announced we were going to start drilling domestically, prices would go down. i am fine for not drilling if we come up with some other alternative in the near future. Obama's plan has neither.

Ga Values

fredinaiken..........Sorry you did not understand what I was trying to say.. The company that make offshore drilling rigs have a 7 year backlog.. it has nothing to do with the federal regulations, there is simply more demand that they can fill. Personally I don't have a problem with offshore drilling, but Saxby & his bunch lied,, he admitted that on Atlanta TV, monday.
