BELVEDERE, S.C. - Mr. Richard S. Payton, 78, of Belvedere, SC, loving husband of twenty-nine years to Rosa Meeks Payton and son of the late Gyp and Mildred Scoggins Payton. Born in Augusta, GA, he had lived in the area most of his life. A veteran of the Korean War, he retired from the United States Army with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a Mason, enjoyed camping, going to the beach and mountains and gardening. In addition to his wife, family members include children, Crystal Wooten, Augusta, GA, Ava Fraiser, Augusta, GA, Richard Payton, Jr., Augusta, GA, Randall Payton, Augusta, GA, Robin Simpkins, North Augusta, SC, and Rod Payton, Belvedere, SC; siblings, Mary Kral, New Port Richey, FL, Betty Becker, New Port Richey, FL, and Dolly Vause, MO; twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 25th, 2008, at 11 o'clock from the graveside in Langley Cemetery, Langley, SC.
