Carolina rants and raves

LINDSEY GRAHAM "wins in a landslide." How sad indeed that South Carolina voters got suckered again. This bozo insists on letting all the illegal aliens flood the U.S., and that's just for starters. He's in cahoots with Bush and McCain. What more do you need to know? He claims he is for "mainstream traditional conservatism." Anytime a pol or media guy says "mainstream," watch your back. Suckered! Sad indeed!

SOUTH CAROLINA Gov. Mark Sanford vetoed socialist laws, so the pols in Columbia overrode his vetoes, thus proving enough of the South Carolina Statehouse voters are socialists, or worse.

THE AIKEN HOUSING AUTHORITY is looking for young folks to "oversee its summer food program." What's socialized "housing" got to do with socialized "free food?" Can't we figure out that socialism has never worked and never will?

A HUGE RANT to North Augusta Bingo! We support your business, we spend our money, and all you give us are excuses! Callers that have a chip on their shoulder and want to hurry and get out of there! You cannot even see a bingo, much less call out! And what do the owners care? They need to listen to their customers more and realize without good customers they won't need these callers who cannot even speak where you can understand what they are saying!

SOUTH CAROLINA Rep. James Clyburn has earmarked, alone, $45.5 million, much going to outfits that benefit his kinfolks, and many of those outfits are not even the responsibility nor under the authority of the federal government, not constitutionally for sure. Does it tell us that the whole bloody Congress is crooked?

GOOD FOR TURNO, Hembree, et al., at the Aiken Department of Public Safety for using a good idea, the "wanted" display. Hear! Hear!

ONCE AGAIN, AIKEN County School District Area 3 is up to old tricks. They have allowed Midland Valley High School to virtually eliminate the marching band by taking away the band's ability to raise money through concessions at football games. They now must share concessions with the athletic booster club so the rich get richer and the band goes away. Aiken County should be ashamed.

I am not suprised that the area 3 superintendent and Dr Hickson has found a way to virtually eliminate the band program. It is the most successful group both on and off the field. unlike athletics, the band has someone join marching and or in leadership position in a division 1 collge band every year at least over the past 8 years, possibly longer than that. including many who are on both academic and music scholarship. MV has had 2 athletes go on to play division 1 sports in 28 years. hardly a record to be proud of.I guess they are tired of the band making the football team appear more pathetic they they are.it must be the money the band has that makes the so successful,so lets just take away what they already do not have. Bands receive no funding from the county the concession stands at football is a major source of funding, so if you take it away the band goes away and athletics gets it all, they no longer have to hear every monday morning that MV band won a marching competition on saturday.. The question is,will our new Aiken county superintendent put a stop to these back door moves by area 3?Lets hope so.

My child is 1 of the football players you're talking about. If it wasn't for my child or the other boys, your child wouldn't be able to toot their horn or play their tom tom! Football, a full contact sport, requires good equipment for safety which costs money not supplied by Aiken County. And the band doesn't even show up for all the football games. I recall seeing the RUDE MV band walk off the field at the Keenan game last year when Keenan, whose band was much better, was about to take the field!
