ATLANTA, Ga. - Delbert George Shomaker, age 62 of Atlanta, passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2008. Mr. Shomaker served in the US Army in the 101st & 82nd Airborne, did 3 tours of duty in Vietnam, received 2 Purple Hearts and was honored to have his father, Master Sergeant, George W. Shomaker as his instructor during parachute training. He was also a member of the Rex Masonic Lodge, F&AM #251. Mr. Shomaker is survived by his greatest love, Kathy Shomaker of Thomaston; his loving daughter, Michelle Shomaker-Underwood and husband, Curtis of Macon; sons, Clay Shomaker and wife, Andrea of Macon, Matthew Allen Shomaker of Thomaston; sister, Cindy Shomaker-Lentz of Ellenwood; brothers, Donald Shomaker and wife, Carroll of College Park, Jerry Shomaker of Atlanta; 4 grandchildren, Destiny Underwood, Emma Cate, Carson & Ava Shomaker and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held Monday, June 23, 2008 at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Joseph Mauthe officiating. A procession will leave precisely at 8:30 a.m. from Ward's Parkway Chapel in Forest Park. Family will receive friends Sunday, June 22, 2008 at the funeral home from 6 to 8 pm.
