Boyles has experience, attitude to lead

I first met Tommy Boyles when the former city of Augusta and Richmond County merged their Recreation and Parks Departments in 1971.

Tommy, as assistant director, was given the responsibility of uniting the parks and athletic staffs as we became one department. He had the attitude, knowledge and personality to assemble such a diverse group as we had.

Tommy became director in 1977, and the department continued to grow. He never hesitated to promote and encourage his staff.

The Georgia Recreation and Parks Association recognized him by electing him as their statewide president in Albany in 1986. At that time, there were over 1,400 members of that organization.

They honored him again in 2004 by selection to the GRPA Hall of Fame while he was serving as an elected member of the Augusta-Richmond County Commission. He served there from 2001 until 2005.

I am so glad that he's decided to seek the Richmond County Tax Commissioner position that was held for so long by Mr. Jerry Saul. We know that with his experience in administering a large department, his military experience, his state government experience and his elected government experience will more than qualify him to do the job.

Please vote for Tommy Boyles on July 15.
