Man lying in road hit, killed by passing truck

A 40-year-old Glascock County man was killed when he was struck by a pickup while lying in the roadway of Georgia Highway 80 in Warren County early Sunday, authorities said.

Coroner Paul Lowe said Roger Lee "Butch" Hendrick, Jr. was pronounced dead of head injuries at the scene at 3:29 a.m.

A 1991 Mazda pickup, driven by Donald Austin Gunnells, of Gibson, struck Mr. Hendrick, according to Trooper First Class Steve Shelton of the Georgia State Patrol. No charges were filed.

Trooper Scott Smith said the victim apparently committed suicide. An investigation found that Mr. Hendrick and his girlfriend had argued after their station wagon ran out of gasoline in Warren County.

I know one needs a lot of money to go grocery shopping these days , but $1,526 in change might be a bit excessive. However anyone who violently attacks an elderly woman has got to get what is coming to him.

Her arthritis could have been

Her arthritis could have been bothering her while shopping and she took her ring off to relieve the pain. That's why it was so much. I'm so sick of you people blaming victims. Yes there are things one can do to minimize thier chances of being a victim and minimize the amount of the loss, but for petes sake, she was in her own yard, he could have taken her into the house and stole more or worse. Stop bashing victims of these crimes and making excuses for the criminals. Everyday you people bash victims. I'm waiting for more regs to come do it. If everyone started calling for the heads of these sorry thieves instead of pitying them maybe it would slow down. Thief caught stealing should have his hand cut off!!!! All these people who pity these criminals and prevent stiffer punishment for them and don't want the jails ran like they should, chain gangs and such, no color tv!! Its BS our city is becoming trash and its the people who live there letting it turn that way!!! I'll bet everyone of you criticizing this lady wouldn't care to much if it was you or your mother in her front yard or home who was robbed and others were saying this stupid crap.

i.b.e.w... I agree 100%,

i.b.e.w... I agree 100%, except even though a certain race does more of these crimes, they arent the only ones. There are many good hard working people of all colors. The problem comes with the mentaility of the people commiting the crimes. Usually raised by sorry criminal parents, who lived off the government thier whole lives and never set a good example of working hard for what you want. and it trickles to generation to generation. These types of lowlife thugs with no morals and work ethics are exactly what happened to the regency mall as you pointed out. Most areas allowing section 8 and housing projects have larger crime rates. anyone with common sense can see that. The programs are great when used by good people who use it as help like it should, but those who use it for a way of life do nothing but breed more sorry crooks. Ripping off the gov't when you can work is stealing.. having more children when already on assistance is robbing others of the help they need. As I said earlier if the bleeding hearts would stop defending trashy immoral people and thier way of life, maybe something could be done... but instead they would rather feel sorry for them, let everyone else live in fear & be victimized.

TakeAstand they always attack victims. They love it. Do you remember the cruel jokes about the old woman at the gas pump? They were cracking such cruel jokes about her, that I sat here and cried. I don't care to associate with people like that.

No Rose what day was that or

No Rose what day was that or the article or station, I'd like to read and see which of the regs are the immature idiots doing it. Not that it matters, they will always be out there, but just curious. lol I'm so tired of having to worry about moving because of the crime rate.. If I liked AZ I'd move out there in that sheriff's district. At least they know how to punish thier criminals!! But I'll never leave the area I'm sure, I'll always be close by on the outskirts somewhere. Even though its going to hell real fast... it's home!!! lol

Anyone who attacks ANY woman

Anyone who attacks ANY woman of ANY age and/or robs her should be the one being criticized here. Not the victim. I don't care if it's simply pictures stolen with my purse or a diamond tiara, those are MY possessions and noone has a right to take them from me, nor should I be criticized for having something of value in my possession. The only wrong thing that was done was by the cowardly thief.

Its sad to think that a bunch

Its sad to think that a bunch of grown people would believe that its one race responsible for these crimes. There are all types of races that live in South Augusta. Why do we have to point fingers at certain races? Is that needed.Even if you look on the Sexual Offenders list on the Augusta, GA website you will see how diverse it it. If you look at society more and more kids parents are addicted to meth, crack, and other drugs that harm their parents abilities to raise their children correctly. Crimes were being committed before our time and its unlikely that its going to change anytime soon, just hope that it never happens to you!

Draw your own conclusions:

Draw your own conclusions: While one in 106 adult white men are incarcerated, one in 36 Hispanics and one in 15 African-Americans are behind bars, according to Pew's examination of Justice Department data from 2006. Younger black men fare even worse, with one in nine African-Americans ages 20 to 34 held in cells. Blacks are less than 13% of the US population.

mgroothand most blacks are in

mgroothand most blacks are in prison for drug crimes. For selling crack mostly. Whites invented the mandatory sentecning of 30 to 40 years for selling crack. In order to keep young black male locked up for long periods of time. While white men who sell meth and cocaine everyday get community service and probation. These white men get to go back to their families. While the black men get to sit in prison. Draw your own conclusions. METH IS THE NUMBER 1 DRUG IN AMERICA. So how is prison still 60% black and hispanics and only 40% white. We all know our lovely judicial system. Got to love america don't you.
