Who is picking these bands or people? Never heard of them.
The 12 Bands of Christmas committee has unwrapped the Yuletide dozen who will be featured on the 2008 benefit CD and concert bill.
They are Tara Scheyer and the Mud Puppy Band, Ed Turner and Number 9, 48 Volt, Crosstie Walkers, Jennifer Daniels, Greg Hester, G-City Rockers, Say Vandelay, the Swanee Quintet, Whosehouse, Grady Nickel and the reunited Debt of Nature.
Last year, several musicians paired with famous friends, bringing in music notables such as Don Dixon and Jason Isbell to perform. This year, 12 Bands committee member Emily Carder said, the challenge was to build a bill drawing from local talent that was equally appealing. She said all the acts selected for this year's CD and show have Augusta ties and that the committee also paid careful attention to selecting acts that would appeal to diverse demographics.
"Last year we tried something a little different with the collaborations," Ms. Carder said. "This year we didn't want to do the same thing. So to make it different, we decided to find bands that would appeal to a lot of different kinds of fans."
She said care was taken to approach acts that had not appeared on a previous 12 Bands bill. With the exception of local favorite Tara Scheyer, 2008 will mark the first 12 Bands appearance for all the acts.
"We're pretty excited about it," she said.
The CD will be out in November, and the concert date will be announced later.

The article states that there is a committee that chooses the bands.
Are you for real, Rodeo? You've never heard of them?
Tara Scheyer and the Mud Puppy Band have only sold out La Chat Noir a time or two, and, if I'm not mistaken Fort Discovery as well. Not to mention that she has gold records hanging from her wall for songwriting she's done for Reba McEntire.
Ed Turner has only been on radio and in print around here forever, and owns the area's biggest piano and keyboard store;and Number 9, his band that usually covers Beatles tunes to perfection, has only raised THOUSANDS of dollars for local charities over the past several years.
48 Volt may've thrown you. They recently changed their name from American Skin. The band is full of local veteran rockers.
Crosstie Walkers only play the Blind Willy Blues Fest every year.
And Jennifer Daniels, Greg Hester, G-City Rockers, Say Vandelay, the Swanee Quintet, Whosehouse, Grady Nickel and the reunited Debt of Nature have all been around making music for years and years.
Grady Nickel used to front Horsepower, possibly my all-time favorite local band.
You were kidding, right?
