We fail to think through our problems

One of the major concerns that forces the Army Corps of Engineers to maintain a minimum flow out of Lake Thurmond is the quality of drinking water at Augusta. Why not pipe Augusta's drinking water supply directly from above the dam? That would eliminate this concern.

It seems to me that if we approached each concern for water flow downstream of the dam in this manner we could decrease the minimum acceptable flows substantially. Just like the current crisis with gas prices, we create future problems when we don't use common sense to solve problems. We are in trouble with gas prices because we failed to develop our energy options years ago and we are in trouble with lake levels for similar reasons.

Although I live in Augusta, I would have to say that the folks downstream have an interest in any serious reduction in flow.

Resolving the many problems that face our area would require a "logical thought process". Our so called leaders have not attended that seminar. A good dose of Dr. Demming's theory would be a total waste of time for these power brokers. Cause and effect, logical troubleshooting and use of "scientific data", no way.

Disgustia reminds me of a "spoiled child" who plays with "daddy's money" and "no restraints". A government that places "amusement" over "fiscal responsibility". Invites it citizens to the carnival and "picks their pockets".

Mr Clontz is the one who hasn't thought through this problem. Water must flow through the damn to create not only water down stream, but generate electricity, which was why the damn was built in the first place.
