NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. - Mr. David Eugene 'Gene' Smith, 73, of W. Forest Ave., entered into rest Friday, June 13, 2008 at University Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 16, 2008 in the Rowland Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Meyer officiating. Interment will be at Pineview Memorial Park. Masonic Rites will be accorded at the graveside. Mr. Smith was a native of Colleton County, SC and had made Belvedere his home since 1955. He was Past Master and current Chaplain of the Belvedere Masonic Lodge #388 and Past District Deputy Grand Master of the 6th District of South Carolina as well as Worthy Patron of the Belvedere chapter of Order of the Eastern Star and Past President of the Belvedere Lions Club. He was a member of Belvedere First Baptist Church where he was a member of the Frank Buck Sunday School Class. Survivors include three daughters, Cynthia Hray (Lex), of Spartanburg, Nora Norville (Thurman), of Augusta and Laura Gann, of North Augusta; a sister, Carrie Warner of Cocoa Beach, FL; six grandchildren, Brooke Gann, of North Augusta, Peyton Hray, of Spartanburg, Trevor Hray, of Columbia, Alice Funsch, of Augusta, Cassidy Norville, of Chicago, Emmie Norville of Athens, GA; and a devoted friend Phyllis Edmunds, of North Augusta. Pallbearers will be Lex Hray, Trevor Hray, Peyton Hray, Thurman Norville, Nicholas Funschand Marc Warner. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Belvedere Masonic Lodge #388, the Frank Buck Sunday School Class of Belvedere First Baptist Church and the Belvedere chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
