Officials will consider 'fuel fee' for speeders

HOLLY SPRINGS --- Speeders in a Cherokee County town might soon be charged a "fuel fee" when pulled over for a ticket.

On Monday, the Holly Springs City Council will consider letting its police department charge a $12 fee to counter a budget deficit sparked by rising fuel prices. City Manager Robert Rokovitz says patrol car use has burned through more than half of the $38,050 budgeted this year for gas.

At that rate, the coffers will be empty by late November -- before the budget year ends.

Officials said friends reported the man missing Friday afternoon. They said he had entered the river from Jones Bridge Park in Norcross. Authorities identified the man Saturday as Edwin Paute-Fernandez, 28, of Doraville.
