KATHERINE JOHNSON

STATS: 17, a rising senior at Jefferson County High School

WHAT: Musical cheerleader

HER STORY: While other teens are lounging during the summer, Katherine has a full schedule, with band camp, leadership camp, cheerleading camp and vacation Bible school.

"I really like fellowshipping in the community," she says. "Missionary work is my passion, and I'd really like to travel to other countries."

When school resumes, Katherine will spend football Friday nights cheering for the team and conducting the marching band: She is captain of the squad and is the drum major.

"Band and cheerleading is fun because it gets you involved in the school," Katherine said.

After high school, she plans to attend college and major in pharmaceutical science.
