APPLING, Ga. - Billy M. "Bill" Best, 67, entered into rest Monday, June 2, 2008 at Heartland Hospice. Mr. Best was the beloved husband of Peggy Rhodes Best. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Jakob Richardson. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Friday, June 6, 2008 at The Shepherd's Church, Appling, with Pastor Bob Rollins officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in The Shepherd's Church Cemetery. Mr. Best was born in Goldsboro, NC and had lived in this area for over 40 years. He served his country in the US Army in the Korean and Vietnam Wars as well as France Belgium and Germany. During his military career he received numerous awards including the Meritorious Service Award and the Bronze Star. He was attached to the United States Secret Service during the 1972 and 1976 presidential campaigns. He was a volunteer with the Martinez Fire Department, Leah VFD and was co-founder of the Winfield VFD where he served as Fire Chief for a number of years. He will be remembered as the very best husband and father. In addition to his loving wife of 49 years, he is survived by a daughter, Debbie (Albert) Valente; sons, James (Virginia) Best, Charles (Lisa) Best and Troy (Rhonda) Best, all of Appling; thirteen grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a sister, Brenda Mosier, Bessemer City, NC and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to The Shepherd's Church Building Fund.
