Coroner's office gets tips on crash victims' identities

Officials with the Richmond County Coroner's Office said Saturday that they had received a few leads about the three people killed Friday in a fiery three-vehicle crash. Positive identifications, though, are still not expected for about two weeks, Deputy Coroner Johnny McDonald said.

On Saturday, the office was gathering medical and dental records to be forwarded to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's crime lab in Atlanta.

The wreck occurred at about 11 a.m. Friday in the 3800 block of Mike Padgett Highway. According to authorities, the driver of a car traveling north lost control, veered into another lane and was hit by a dump truck. The car then went into the southbound lanes and was broadsided by a tanker truck. Officials have said the bodies were so badly burned that DNA testing will be needed to identify them.

Augusta representative is named to committee

State Rep. Quincy Murphy, D-Augusta, has been named to the House Study Committee on the Future of Manufacturing in Georgia by House Speaker Glenn Richardson, R-Hiram.

The committee is charged with studying the conditions, needs and issues surrounding ways to bring new manufacturing jobs to Georgia.

New garbage containers with logo to be delivered

Residents in parts of west and south Augusta will wake up to new garbage containers Monday morning.

Workers will begin delivering new containers with the county logo Monday.

Those who receive the containers should place the old, empty containers on the curb.

Why not replace garbage cans as needed? It seems as if wholesale replacement is a waste of taxpayers money :-(

Augustans need to wake up!!!

Augustans need to wake up!!! Fred Russell is a free spender and
does not give a damn about your taxes being increased. The
county commissioners certainly don't care and will continue to
raise property tax to cover their spending on nonsense. Why
are we as taxpayers having tosupport the civic center fiasco,
sell the civic center and get out of the business. Get rid of the
stupid jobs such as checking to see who is trimming trees in their yards. Quit doing all these studies and spending large amounts of money. Some of the politicans will tell you it is a
federal grant, but we also pay federal taxes the last time I checked. Get real Augusta, lets vote out all we can and try
some new people.

"Those who receive the containers should place the old, empty containers on the curb."~~hmmm, is Monday a "trash" day in that area? I mean, what would you have them do with the "trash" in the ones being placed to the curb until you get the new ones there? [filtered word]?

GA House Speaker Richardson

GA House Speaker Richardson made a good choice when he selected an area legislator, Rep. Quincy Murphy, to the House Study Committee on the Future of Manufacturing in Georgia. Murphy's a decent and able man who'll bring a businessman's perspective to the problem of how Georgia can compete for high-paying manufacturing jobs against other states and foreign countries. Let us pray that Murphy's efforts are successful or many of us'll be eating out of garbage cans rather than arguing over whether some get new ones.

Blah blah blah blah blah,

Blah blah blah blah blah, sounds like the same stuff is still being said, I was gone for 2 whole days on vacation (can't afford to get farther away) I come back home and wow a brand new trash can, awe you shouldn't have, no really, you shouldn't have. I was born and raised here and I must say that this town has not always been like this, it has really changed since the "consolidation" era. We were at that time promised change and we got it! I used to be able to hold my head up when speaking to visitors ,but it is embarrassing some of this crap. I would love to be able to be proud of our Augusta again. ...............

It will take three weeks to identify those poor folks through DNA. In the meantime, doesn't anyone have some missing family members? What a sad situation.

foggygone, to take a long

foggygone, to take a long vacation economically, turn off your t.v., computer, and avoid any newspapers. Don't use your car for driving and don't listen to any local (csra) radio stations. In less then a week you'll think you live in another town.

Were there no license plates

Were there no license plates on the vehicles? Would that be a clue? At least it should get them close to the occupants, unless they stole the vehicles. What do those "computers" in the ARC crusiers do?

I am sure that they have

I am sure that they have tenatively idenified them> They are waiting for positive idenification, before releasing it to the public. I am willing to bet that family members have come forward and given law enforcement some clues as to who they may be. I do not have any way else to say this but hopefully they were from the area otherwise, it make take even longer for their loved ones, to be located.

I think the article state that the driver of the car went over the line and was struck by the dump truck. What the heck does Hwy 56 have to do with careless driving?
