Science Center event aimed at previewing summer activities

School is out, and families are looking for something to do.

To kick off the summer break, Fort Discovery will hold a Spring into Summer Day on Saturday to introduce families to its programs and activities.

"This is a great way for kids to celebrate the end of school and for parents to get an idea of the activities and camps we have planned this summer," said Katie Tuck, the marketing and business development coordinator. "It's also a good way to get kids excited about science and to get them interested in participating in our activities throughout the year."

The event, which includes free admission to the science center, will feature science demonstrations such as the Science of Toys and the Science of Making Ice Cream with liquid nitrogen, a performance by singer-songwriter Tara Scheyer, face-painting, a laser tripwire demonstration and Brain Quest Trivia.

The first 250 guests will receive free ice cream sundaes. After that sundaes will be sold at a discounted price. University Health Care System will distribute 300 free sun-protection kits.

Discounted membership and summer camp rates also will be available to guests.

"We are encouraging everyone to come out and enjoy the activities," Mrs. Tuck said. "It's one of the few events where we have something going on all day. With so much going on, there won't be a chance for anyone to get bored. They are going to have a lot of fun!"
