COLUMBIA, S.C. - Memorial service for Charles P. Berry, 89, will be held Thursday, May 29 at 11:00 a.m. at Forest Lake Presbyterian Church with a private interment in Forest Lake Presbyterian Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends following the service in the church parlor. Memorials may be made to the Organ Fund at Forest Lake Presbyterian Church, 6500 North Trenholm Road, Columbia, SC 29206. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. Charles Berry died on Memorial Day, Monday, May 26, 2008. Born in Johnston, S.C., he was the son of the late George and Cora Yonce Berry. He was a retired Army Major who served in WW II and Korea and received the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. After military retirement, he was the Assistant to the President of Palmetto Quarries and Lone Star Industries. He then served as Business Manager for Shandon Presbyterian Church and Forest Lake Presbyterian Church. He was past District Governor of Rotary International, District 7777, and past President of Five Points Rotary. He was also past President of Rockbridge Club and served as an Elder and Deacon at Forest Lake Presbyterian Church, where he was a member. Additionally, he was a Boy Scout Troop Scoutmaster and Explorer Scout leader. He received the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Margaret Thomason Berry; four children, Mimi Winbery of San Antonio, Texas, Judy Jackson of Aiken, S.C., Steve Berry of West Palm Beach, Fla., and David Berry of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren.
