Anita Faye Reed is taken to an ambulance outside Academy Sports and Outdoors in Evans. Columbia County sheriff's Capt. Steve Morris said her injuries were not life-threatening.

Anita Faye Reed, of Augusta, was shot in the face at about 10 a.m. outside Academy Sports and Outdoors, 4210 Washington Road, by Keith Dewayne Lowe, who authorities believe was her ex-boyfriend, said Columbia County sheriff's Capt. Steve Morris. Mr. Lowe, 30, then turned the .38-caliber handgun on himself.

County Coroner Vernon Collins confirmed later that Mr. Lowe, of Breezy Hill Drive in Augusta, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Ms. Reed, a 32-year-old employee of Academy Sports, was shot twice -- above the left eye and in her left ear, Capt. Morris said. He called the injuries "non-life-threatening."

Ms. Reed was sitting up on a stretcher and holding a bloody cloth to her head while being loaded into an ambulance. Capt. Morris said she was taken to Medical College of Georgia Hospital.

MCG spokeswoman Denise Parrish said the hospital isn't releasing information on Ms. Reed.

A witness reported seeing Ms. Reed arguing with someone on a mobile phone while in the store. However, Capt. Morris said police are uncertain who she was arguing with. It wasn't until she left the store that she was shot.

Ms. Reed's and Mr. Lowe's cars were in the employee parking area. It is unclear whether Mr. Lowe entered the store before the shooting, but police plan to review surveillance tapes, Capt. Morris said.

An Academy Sports store manager referred questions about the shooting to the company's corporate offices. Phone messages left for corporate officials were not immediately returned Friday.

Why do these guys always get it backwards? If he's going to shoot himself anyway, why not do it first?

PTHS2

PT - G'mornin. Well at least his aim got better......

Craig Spinks

Yeah, he saved us some tax money.

justputtin

All 3 of these posts are "dead" on. Wish his aim was worse until he fired on himself. Glad the woman is alive and recovering.

I4PUTT

See..there is good in all of us. We tend to do the right thing in the end!

christian134

Well said patricia well said...These people always seems to reason that they will have the last laugh or word if they take someone else with them....Fortunately he was a bad shot....May God help you toward a speedy recovery Ms. Reed...

TakeAstand

Thank goodness Ms. Reed survived 2 shots to the head. My prayers to her for a speedy recovery. She had a guardian angel with her that day, and shes rid of that crazy man for good!!!!

GET REAL1

I agree with U Pat, should have stayed home and dealt with his issues without involving a young lady (at her job no less) in the mess!

LadyCisback

What a terrible crime.

emsware3

"Let he who is WITHOUT sin cast the first stone", HMM I believe we all should just pray for all families involved and know sometimes we could better help with prayer and not comments.

msdarlindixie

A mother has lost a son. This world needs to have compassion for all involved. Yes I agree with emsware3 we as a community need to pray and have a christ-like concern for all. More people are touched by this tragedy than just the two involved in the shooting.

gagirl40

I agree 100% Patricia!

Rose

This is an awful crime. I pray for both families.Too bad he did not kill himself without shooting the woman first. He was probably a control freak and an abusive piece of crap. I know his family must be suffering, and I feel for them, but not for him.

emptyme

I honestly believe that this man was out of fellowship with God. I also believe the enemy used him while he was at his weakest. We all need to sit back and reevaluate our lives. We have all sinned and come short to the glory of God. I agree also, he who has not sinned cast the first stone. This is a tragedy but it should open our eyes as professed christians to pray for each other and those sinners to come to God. We are NOT God nor will we ever be. He is the Judge. The enemy is sitting back watching and laughing at how we are putting one another down instead of having compassion and coming together in brotherly love. This guy did not commit that murder, the spirit in him; which was not of God. Make sure we are looking through our spiritual eyes and not our flesh. Bind those murder, hatred, anger, and jealous spirits. If we are not careful and get where we need to be in Him, who is to say we might not get out of fellowship as well. Renew your minds daily and think of godly things.

The photo that ran on page 1 captures perfectly the concern for others revealed in the deputy's facial expression.

saddaynga

I am praying for everyone involved in the terrible situation. please know tha we all cry out for help in different ways. We are not the judge, so we can not judge him for what he has done. but we can pray for him his family and ms. Reed's recovery. We do not know when our name will be called to come HOME, so please everyone who reads this and for the ones who don't pass the message..... GET YOUR LIFE IN ORDER NOW... NOT TOMORROW.... FOR IT IS NOT PROMISED. i knew the young man and i know he comes from a good strong family and he was a good man. thats hard for many to see, but he truely was. please pray for his mother and lets pray for each other.

concerned adult

You know what some you people are morally corrupt. I knew him and for him to do what he did he was in a bad place. He was a good man who until this mistake was an up standing citizen in Augusta. He did not have to make the choice he did but he his time is now over. His family is in mourning and you criticize him for his mistake.

I cannot at this say that he his action will ever be forgave but the good person he was before this will be Missed

RIP IN PEACE MY FRIEND

If you want to comment to that you are an unjust hypocritical moron!

cadam12

wish all men realize that if a woman dont want you just let it go.

Safe at Home

He woke up in Hell and was supprised to find out she wasn't there.

SargentMidTown

I wish that crazy people would keep their domestic disputes at home. Trash, trash, trash.

crazyoldman

A woman in the name a love has screw up a many a good man.

WHATDIDIDO

No one is judging him. But, what possible truth are we missing? He shot this lady three times in the head, now you may think that there is more to the story, but short of self defense, IMHO he was just a BULLY.

bigfishlittlepond

Umm.. Did I hear that she was seen "SITTING UP" on a stretcher with a bloody cloth on her head? ..What's up EMS? a .38 caliber gun shot wound X 2 to head doesnt constitute Spinal immobilzation?..Last time I checked there is a spine..attached to your head....

bigbert9980

WOW Evans ,GA who would have ever known, shows that crime can happen anytime and anywhere no matter what side of town you are on even in the least unexpected places.

steveo

I wonder where the shooter is from? I bet he wasn't raised in Evans.

taurus98

To the NEGATIVE PEOPLE, you don't know him and you don't know the whole story but from what she told others. She is not the vicitm here. She started this from the beginning, and she know she did. Others have told her to leave him/her alone but she failed to do it. She has lied so much to everyone to make them believe she was the victim and she wasn't. She just could not stand to see him happy. If he told you time and time again, to leave him alone, leave him alone. You knew what he was HAPPY!!! AND SHE COULDN'T STAND IT!!! And now, this inccident has occured. It didn't have to come down to this. I wish she would've left him alone in the first place and this would've never happened. But you know, he will be truly missed!!

babydoll1

Taurus98 I dont mean to sound mean when i thisbut that was a choice that he made. If she did not want him or e didnt want her they both should have walked away. she did not make him shoot her, that was a choice that he made to do on his own. And Im sorry to hear that he did this but he did and there is nothing that no one can do about it now. the sad part is he went there with the intention of taking her life and then his. Now he took his but she lived. God was not ready for her so dont be mad at her and say that it was her fault because he was an adult that made the decesion to attempt to take her life and then to actually take his own. Its not her fault and mabe he was not that happy becuse if he was he would not have commited this act against himelf and her. Stop placein the blame on her and place it where it actually needs to be and that is on him. True enough he may be gone now and I know he will be missed by those who love him and know him well but people need to understand and realize when they want to end thier life then that is what they should do and not take and or attempt to take others with them. God spared her life for a reason he sitll has work 4 her and until he is

bigbert9980

steveo him being raised in Evans or not has nothing to do what he did. He could have been raised in timbuck2 but the shooting happen in Evans period, end of story, Next poster please!
