Betty Neumar: 76-year-old was in the Richmond County jail awaiting extradition on charges linked to a 1986 murder.

On Wednesday, authorities arrested 76-year-old Betty Neumar, of the 600 block of Cambridge Court, accusing her of soliciting help to kill her husband. Ms. Neumar faces a charge of solicitation to commit murder, according to Stanley County Sheriff Rick Burris and Richmond County jail officials.

Ms. Neumar lived in Albemarle, N.C., at the time of her husband's death. The case has been under investigation since July 1986, Sheriff Burris told The Chronicle in a telephone interview. Investigators from his department were aided by Richmond County sheriff's authorities in apprehending Ms. Neumar.

"We recently saw some information, and we felt we should reopen the case and take a look," Sheriff Burris said.

According to a 1986 story in the Charlotte Observer , Ms. Neumar's husband at the time, Thomas Harold Gentry, 48, was found dead in his Norwood, N.C., home from several gunshot wounds. His wife was out of town at the time and relatives discovered the body, according to the article.

On Thursday, Ms. Neumar was awaiting extradition to North Carolina.

From the mug on her I would have guessed suicide.

I'm with you 1313!! That's one of those wives, that if she threatened to poison your food, you'd beg for seconds. Some kinda ugly.

lady_alessandra

Hello -- she's 76 years-old -- what do you expect - Miss America?

pantherluvcik

I'm sure she was breathtaking when she was younger, a woman to die for.

Good one 'panther'...

From what I have seen visiting Georgia all the dogs are not just in Athens.

Maybe this woman and the other dude who killed (allegedly) the 2 month old can hook up in the pokey. Man, they'd have some "killer" kids!

some things you just cant seem to get away with, and thats murder, you reap what you sow, thats only carma catching up with her,the new husband just died last month, may god bless all of you . (harvey boy).

WHATDIDIDO

What kind of home life did she have? I guess the apple do not fall too far from the tree. If the other husband just died, they might want to look at his death again.

critter

Wonder what the evidence was that they found after 22 years?

freespeech

If you think she is ugly - you should have seen her husband.

Rose

News last night said she has outlived 3 husbands. Her last one's son was on tv and said she kept him and his father apart, and she and his dad moved to NC. He said a few months ago his dead died, and she had him cremated before he found out his dad had died. He does not know what really happened to his dad.

double_standard

I bet you won't see this on first 48.

hobo

Geez she probably killed him with her looks no need to use a gun

1beachbum

A real "Black Widow". She's probably killed all of her husbands.

(Sung to the tune One-eyed Purple People Eater)
She was a blue-haired, wrinkled faced, creepy-eyed-husband-killer.

to all of the above; get a life!!!!!!!!!!!!! you read a story and just like maggots you all get to running your mouths, if you dont have anything of a positive nature to say then shut up!!!!!!! stupid things like what she look like? duh!!!! i bet your mommy; look alot worse than she does. what happend to innonce until proven guilty!!!!!!!

mable8

Where does the article say she has been widowed up to 5 times? All the conjecture is sheer nonsense. As for her looks, what do YOU think YOU will look like as you are nearing 80 years of age??? No one knows what the "new evidence" is, so why try to second-guess it? I agree, saywhat, that one is innocent until proven guilty.
