Autumn Trail has too many speed bumps

  • Follow Letters

Recently, speed bumps were installed on Autumn Trail, the road leading into Sugarcreek Subdivision from Lewiston Road. While this may seem to be a well-thought-out decision to slow down vehicle traffic, I question the number of bumps that were installed.

You now have a 1.2-mile residential road with 11 speed bumps. This is a neighborhood where the home lots range from one to five or more acres, and in fact many of the homes are not visible from the road. There are numerous vehicles who attempt to drive around the bumps with one tire on the grass beside the road. You now have homeowners attempting to block these vehicles with cinder blocks, garbage containers, rocks, stakes and, at times, by leaving their cars parked next to the speed bump. In short, you have significantly detracted from the beauty of a neighborhood, and most probably, reduced resale values for homes in the neighborhood.

For those individuals who may desire the installation of speed bumps in their neighborhood, I invite you to take a "peaceful" drive down Autumn Trail. Finally, I wonder how much of your tax money was spent for this "traffic improvement."

Do people still drive 60 mph down Autumn Trail?

What had you rather have a traffic fatality as a speeder runs over a neighborhood child or speed bumps? I know the bumps are a hassle but having kids like so many squashed frogs on the road doesn't seem a good alternative.

Speed bumbs or humps should not be installed unless 90% of the property owners sign off on them. Don't let your kids play in the street and they wont get hit.

"Don't let your kids play in the street and they wont get hit." I guess you never road your bike or played on the streets as a child. You must of had a terrible and repressive childhood.

The only traffic hazard in that neighborhood are unlicensed kids who drive golf carts and four-wheelers in the road, and the deer population. Parents should not allow their children to drive these toys on the road and that would eliminate that hazard. If the parents don't accept some responsibility, then law enforcement needs to start enforcing existing laws.

People just slow down right before them, and race ahead to the next one, so anyone between the humps is still a target. Even going slow over the humps regularly will still wear a car's suspension out faster than if there were no humps.
