Ashley Wright, named to the post Tuesday by Gov. Sonny Perdue, also said she intends to run this fall for a full four-year term.

"I'm just excited to keep serving in the same, yet again, a different way," said Ms. Wright.

An assistant prosecutor for nearly 12 years, Ms. Wright recently became the chief assistant district attorney for William Bowcutt. He had taken over the district attorney's duties while the governor decided who would replace former top prosecutor Daniel J. Craig, who is now a Superior Court judge.

Ms. Wright, 40, earned her undergraduate and law degrees from Randolph-Macon Women's College and Mercer University, following in her father's footsteps in choosing a law career.

She serves as an adjunct professor at Georgia Military College and previously served as a law clerk at Groover & Childs of Macon.

She is a member of the Augusta Bar Association and Augusta Symphony Inc.

Okay, now that Ms. Wright is the new DA, I guarantee you that we WILL be hearing local WGAC radio talk-show host going on and on and on about how well he knows her and how the 2 of them are such good friends. He desperately wants people to know that he has "connections" and often alludes to how easily he can get the inside scoop on what's going on. Ms. Wright, please keep this leech at arms length. Please realize that he only wants your friendship to futher his own gains. And, by the way, Ms. Wright? Congratulations and good luck in your well-deserved appointment.

Sounds like someone's envious of Austin. I'll bet that's a tough bag to carry.

Congratulations to Ms Wright, I hope she is as good at the job as Danny Craig. I'm sure there'll be comparisons for a while.

if austin's success/failure's link'd to mz. wright's appt., that's certainly news to rhodes & mz. wright.

After months and months of the office being vacant, our Governor makes the appointment 3 days before qualifying begins, sounds like someone cut a deal.

Everyone is right, interestingly enough. Ms. Wright is certainly well qualified and experienced. And anyone who doesn't recognize the opportunistic charater of ANY talk-show host, well... As far as deals being cut, who is surprised? The governor helps Ms. Wright not only by appointing her, but by getting her into the papers the week BEFORE qualifying. She will then be in the papers again the week OF qualifying, and then taking the oath of office for maximum exposure. In the end, just like Ms. Wright said, we'll have more of the same. Don't be surprised who qualifies next week, either.

AR apparently ticked off someone at Martinez Elementary. Yep...he knows most of the political types in town, it is his job. As far as whether they are friends or not, he has said on many occasions that Ashley Wright would make the most qualified NEW DA Augusta ever had. Sounds like he liked her long before she became DA.

Great choice. Who gives a rat's behind what Austin thinks?

Congratulations Ms. Wright.....:-)

Willie Saunders will run against her, but in any case, congratualtions to Ms Wright...another Mercer Law grad as DA. Mercer seems to have a lock on the office.

Congrats to A Wright, well deserving of the position. It always takes the govenor to the last minute to make a decision. AWright is the ONLY person in the area deserving and capable of taking over the position. GOOD LUCK

Governor Perdue's appointment of Ashley Wright as District Attorney will be remembered as his best decision during two terms as Governor. Ms. Wright's qualifications, dedication to service, and determination will well serve the District Attorney's Office, and will continue the excellent reputation and traditions of that office in the Richmond-Columbia-Burke judicial circuit.

i first had dealings with Ms. Wright when she first came to the DA's office. She was always friendly, helpful and polite. I am glad to see that she is moving up and I believe that she will make another great DA.

My mother always wanted me to meet Ms. Wright... Too bad I am already married...

Austin Who??

She may be qualified but could be a little more cordial to the noncriminals that cross her path. Just a suggestion. Also they should have chosen a picture that looks less like a mug shot, as someone suggested!
Willie Saunders, now there's a all-around good guy!

Ashley Wright is the best decision. I personally think she should have been chosen over Danny Craig. One thing i know about this lady is that she is not a sore loser. She brings moral and class to the court room. She doesn't take cases personal, but professionally. I once witness where she lost a case to someone who represented himself because her witness lied under oath and this lady congratulated the defendent and moved on to the next case. she is a mother, employee and most important an individual. as per willie sanders he is the worst DA Augusta would every ask for. He prosecuted my husband and lost because he lied, help evidence, and concocted and plotted with the complainants who brought false charges against my husband. two weeks after my husband was found not guilty in seven minutes by the juror he left the DA office. We need morality in the court room not people who use unorthodox methods to convict innocent people.

Great news for the citizens of Richmond, Burke, and Columbia counties!

iteach2 - Nice prediction on AR's reaction. You nailed it. But on the positive side, he did read your post (and a few others from here) over the air about 10 mins ago. I would like to add my congratulations to Ms Wright for a well-deserved appointment.

I really hope Willie Saunders doesn't run against Ms. Wright. he would make a great judge but he doesn't need to run everytime any opening for any office opens up.
