MARTINEZ, Ga. - J.R. passed away on April 20, 2008. He is survived by Nellie, his loving wife of 69 years; sons: Jimmy (Beth) and Kenny (Vivian); grandchildren, Michael Wheeler (Carol), Laura W. Efird (Dave), and Amy Redden (Brian); great grandchildren, Joseph and Nikki Wheeler, Rebecca and Cory Efird, and Shelby Redden. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sallie Tapley Geter and Joe J. Born in Johnson County, Ga. on May 15, 1919, J.R. retired from Durham Life Insurance Co. and later worked at Gracewood State Hospital. He founded Faith Chapel in Martinez around 1954 and then founded Hope Chapel in Augusta around 1968. He has continued to preach part time until his health curtailed his activities. He was an avid fisherman and loved the Ogeechee River. He also enjoyed watching the Braves and working in his garden.
