County justice center closed for bomb threat

CANTON, GA. --- The Cherokee County Historic Courthouse and the county justice center were shut down for the day Monday after a 911 caller said a bomb would go off at noon.

Sheriff's Sgt. Jay Baker said hundreds of employees and about 80 jurors were sent home after the calls shortly after 9 a.m.

Sgt. Baker said nine bomb dogs from several jurisdictions helped search both buildings, because the male caller did not specify which one contained the bomb.

He said no devices were found, and the buildings will be open as usual today.

The male caller called three times from a cell phone, and investigators are trying to track it, Sgt. Baker said.

Trial to begin for officer charged in cover-up

ATLANTA --- Jury selection is scheduled to start in the case of an Atlanta police officer charged in the cover-up of the police killing of a 92-year-old woman.

Arthur Tesler was one of the officers on the scene when Kathryn Johnston was shot in a raid on her house based on wrong information that cocaine was there. Some officers tried to cover up the crime by planting drugs in Ms. Johnston's basement.

Officer Tesler is charged with making a false statement to an investigator, violating his oath of office and unlawful imprisonment. He is the only officer involved with the raid who opted for a trial and faces a possible 15-year sentence.

I guess "innocent until proven guilty" only applies if you're not a cop? I did 20 "on the job" & never had to plant anything, it was already growing when I got the call.
