AUGUSTA, Ga. - Harriet Fiske Maguire, a homemaker and dietician, died peacefully at Westwood Nursing Facility on April 16, 2008 at age 95. She was a life long resident of Augusta, Georgia and was educated in the Richmond County school system. She graduated from Wesleyan College and did graduate study at The University of Georgia and dietary study at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago, where she served as an intern in dietetics. She worked at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin, North Carolina and Emory Hospital in Atlanta as a dietician. She was a life long member of St. John United Methodist Church where she actively participated in various capacities and was a member of Sells Bible Class and United Methodist Women. Harriet Maguire was preceded in death by her husband: Samuel Oscar Maguire, Jr. and by her son: William Flournoy Maguire. She is survived by her son: Samuel Fiske Maguire and his wife, Sadie Coleman Maguire, sister: Mary Magruder, seven grandchildren: Samuel Fiske Maguire, Jr., Sadie M. Fitzgerald, Harriet M Eddings, Jennifer M. Cary, Hannah Bray Maguire, Judith Ann Maguire, William F. Maguire, Jr. and 11 great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at Westover Memorial Park on Friday, April 18th at 3:00 P.M. with the Rev. Gary DeMore and Rev. Terry Phillips officiating. Pallbearers will be: Dr. Richard L. Magruder, Dr. Robert Ruppenthal, Jefferson Cary, Tim Fitzgerald, Dr. Tally Eddings, Sam Maguire, Jr., William Maguire and Michael Barnes. The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. John United Methodist Church, 736 Greene Street, Augusta, Georgia, 30901. The family also expresses appreciation to Daisy Williams, and the director and staff of Westwood for their kindness and care they provided.
