Art benefit has mystery angle for all bidders

When people bid on artwork Friday at the second annual Undercover Artists Show, they could be buying the work of a seasoned artist -- or their neighborhood banker.

"That's one of the fun parts about this fundraiser," said Vicki Greene, the development coordinator for the Walton Foundation for Independence. "When you bid, you're buying it because you like it, not because of who created it."

The event, which is being held at Walton Rehabilitation Hospital in conjunction with the Georgia Artists With Disabilities Juried Art Show, features more than 100 pieces of art created by community members in addition to more than 60 pieces from artists with disabilities.

"We wanted to get people onto our campus to see the artwork from the juried show, so we came up with this event last year," Ms. Greene said. "This way, the community is involved by showcasing their art alongside artwork our artists with disabilities have created."

All artwork will be up for bid, and the artists will remain anonymous until after the auction.

The proceeds from community members' artwork will benefit the hospital and its programs. Proceeds from artwork created by artists with disabilities will go to the artists.

Food by Takosushi and an "artini bar" will be available during the event.

"This is a good way to show that everyone can be an artist and art is in the eye of the beholder," Ms. Greene said. "We have some really good pieces of work, so it's going to be a fun night for everyone."

The juried art show will be on display at Walton Rehabilitation Hospital throughout April.
