Glory Run is festive event

The fourth annual Glory Run is more than a sanctioned 5K race. It's a festive community event.

Paul Balducci and his son Ethan were participants in the Alleluia Glory Run 5K in 2005.

"All along the route, homes are decorated. People are cheering. Frequently, there is music playing," said Dian Conkright, the event chairwoman.

The event, scheduled for April 26, goes through Faith Village off Lumpkin Road. It is a fundraiser for Alleluia Community School.

"We have people in costumes -- knights in shining armor, Elvis and, one year, Dash from The Incredibles was there," she said.

Nearly 400 runners participated in last year's race, she said.

Since it is a sanctioned event, members of running groups such as the Augusta Striders participate.

In addition to the 5K, there is a one-mile fun run/walk and a tot trot.

Registration for the event is $18; active-duty military can register for $12.50.

There are prizes for the best times in each event as well as prizes for best military time and best costume.

The event "has just grown to become something unique. It's fun and family-centered," she said.

The 5K will begin at 8 a.m.; race-day registration will be from 7 to 7:45 a.m. The one-mile fun run will begin at 9 a.m.
