Investigators in need of information on burglaries

Richmond County sheriff's investigators are seeking information that could lead to arrests in several Hill-area burglaries.

On Tuesday, a burglary was reported in the 2800 block of Walton Way, along with two other burglaries at homes on Cummings Road and Henry Street.

On April 2, police said, a man broke into a home in the 2800 block of Walton Way and escaped on a mountain bike.

Investigators believe all the burglaries are related, considering they all occurred during the daytime.

Anyone with information leading to an arrest is asked to call (706) 821-1080.

Man threatened office, police say

Police are looking for a Martinez man they say threatened to shoot and kill employees Wednesday at the Augusta Social Security Administration office.

Bobby Lee Morris, 60, told a clerk, "I will come back with a gun, shoot you and everyone else in here," according to a Richmond County sheriff's report. The report stated that he was denied benefits.

The incident happened about 10:20 a.m. at the office at 115 Robert C. Daniel Parkway, according to Investigator Tess Alexander Brunson. No weapons were involved, she said.

Anyone with information leading to Mr. Morris' whereabouts is asked to call the Richmond County Sheriff's Office at (706) 821-1080.

Traffic report

- Authorities have closed Dunnington Place at West Lake Forest Drive until Friday. Workers will install a sewer line near the road, according to a Richmond County Engineering Department news release.

WHATDIDIDO

Must be a typo. No way in the world, that anyone from Columbia County would commit a crime. A case of mistaken identity, or identity theft.

nightcop

ummm...what are you talking about? no story about columbia county even posted here.
anyway who ever said there was no crime in columbia county? goof!!

patriciathomas

Hypo, didn't you mean to post that comment yesterday? Time warp.

i know

It clearly says a Martinez man. That is in Columbia County last time I checked.

prolifer

Ummm, I just hit the back arrow and it clearly states that a "Martinez" man made the threats. Maybe nightcop has been on nights too long.

nightcop

did the crime take place in columbia county? morons!!!

FallingLeaves

At least part of Martinez is in Richmond County. I'm not certain if there are any parts in Columbia county, but it does have several zipcodes, 30906, 30905, 30907, and ? Over the years, it never even crossed my mind that Martinez had any sections in Columbia county. I am curious now that it has been brought up, are there? How would you get a map outlining the exact boundaries, especially since Martinez isn't even officially a town, it's just a community?

InChristLove

There was another armed robbery yesterday, this one occurring on Mike Padgett Hwy and I know for a fact they caught one of the robbers yesterday. Why isn't more information on this story or the robbery that happened at Goshen Grocery listed in the Augusta Chronicle or even on the TV Stations websites. I can bet there are more stories that have occurred "Across the Area" than investigators needing more information, an irate man threatening the SS office and a traffic report concerning the installment of a sewer line. Come on.....I thought a newspaper is suppose to report "NEWS"

columbiacountymom

The zip code for Martinez is 30907 and is in both Richmond and Columbia county.

karmakills123

who cares??

dani

baroness..The Columbia County line is somewhere near Home Depot on Bobby Jones and I'm not sure where the line is on Wheeler Rd but it's near Doctor's Hospital.

This_is_nuts

nightcop, you are the one looking like a moron here. The post said anyone FROM Columbia County, and nothing about where the crime was committed.. get a cup of coffee and wake up!

prolifer

The line is at the driveway of Home Depot and at Flowing Wells Rd but what difference does it make. Nightcop should be on days. Did anyone say that the crime took place in CC? The AUGUSTA SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION at 115 ROBERT C. DANIEL PKWY would cause a REASONABLE person to think the crime took place in RICHMOND COUNTY. BTW, is nightcop just a sign on or are you really a night cop? If you are a cop and are willing to tell your beat, I'll gladly move if you patrol my area, Moron!

FallingLeaves

If it's on a Richmond County Sheriff's report, I'm going to hazard a guess the crime occurred in Richmond County.

FallingLeaves

This is all about as clear as mud. Giggle. But please, fellow ravers and ranters, please don't call names. It's childish and immature.

evansmom

The real issue here is the ignorance of HYPOCRITES2008 to make a comment like that. There are criminals in Columbia county. There are sex offenders, druggies, robbers, etc. I don't recall anyone ever saying there weren't? But, I believe HYPOCRITES2008 is a little bitter. I live in Columbia County because facts will show that the school system is better than Richmond County and the crime rate is lower than Richmond County. I live in Columbia County because, unlike your filthy rich neighbors on Walton Way, Wheeler Rd., "The Hill", I don't have money to send my children to private schools. I live in Columbia County becuase I feel much safer walking in and out of my home at night than I do walking out of my Richmond County downtown office in broad daylight. We don't boast and brag about our precious Columbia County because we think we're better than you, we do it because we look at the facts and we're proud of it.

respectyourelderstoo

The Goshen robbery was posted on the tv website(wrdw.com)

If Richmond County schools are all so bad, why did my youngest son make 2240 on the SAT, why did my daughter not only receive the Hope scholarship (and my oldest son) but two more scholarships, last count, why is my other daughter headed for an Ivy League school and all three of the youngest near the top of their class in one of the academically best public schools in the country right here in Richmond County? I am proud of the good things about Richmond County, I just don't sweep the bad things under the rug AND we're doing something about them.

FallingLeaves

thankyou columbiacountymom re: zipcode.

Who gives a????????

mgr

Theres nothing wrong with either county. Let it go folks. This is a joke that this goes on everyday. There is good law enforcement, people, churches,restaurants,etc.,etc. in both NEIGHBORING counties.

I know the video was posted on WRDW but I was under the impression (could just have been a rumor) that they had caught the two boys that robbed Goshen but have never seen anything about it on the news or paper. I know one of the robbers yesterday from Mike Padgett Hwy was caught but nothing on that situation either.

Police are looking for a Martinez man they say threatened to shoot and kill employees Wednesday at the Augusta Social Security Administration office.

Rose

It happened in Augusta. Augusta is in Richmond County. Martinez is in Columbia County. So they are looking for a Martinez man.

Rose

Martinez is in Columbia County, in the Augusta metro area.

The latitude of Martinez is 33.517N. The longitude is -82.075W.

It is in the Eastern Standard time zone. Elevation is 361 feet.

The population, at the time of the 2000 census, was 27,749.

workingmom

Thanks for clearing that up Rose...ha! Evansmom, I agree with what you have said about living in CC and the school system. I have lived in both counties and moved to CC because of the school system. That is not to say that there are some good RC schools, students and teachers. If CC had a magnet school that allowed students to "apply" to and be accepted (or not) I'm sure all of their scores would be high. But since CC doesn't have that advantage, we just have to work with what we have. And we STILL have top scoring students.

tmptcd63

Evansmom, your reasons are the same reasons why I live in Columbia County. When I decided to move here I didn't know the difference between Columbia or Richmond county - once I mentioned I had school age children, I was directed to stay out of Richmond County... like you, I am NOT filthy rich... not even grubby rich.... lol. I work in Richmond County and see the huge difference between the children and adults alike. It's a shame that some Richmond County residents purge their anger here, and direct it at CC residents. We didn't force you to live in RC - your problem, not ours.

Most of the growth in the future is going to happen in richmond because of downtown. The watermark condos, whites building, kroc center, library, judicial center etc. So i expect richmond to surpass aiken and columbia in population gains. Traffic and growth in martinez, aiken and evans are going. To make people move to mccormic, mcduffie, burke, and edgefield, and lincoln county. But on this site is CC residents who always metnion richmond everyday. And martinez is in richmond and columbia county. The richmond county part could be considered west augusta. There are no jobs in evans, harlem, martinez, or grovetown. Aiken county has more jobs than CC. Also CC residents have to come to richmond for nightlife. When they want to shop they have to drive 30 mins from parts of evans, harlem, grovetown, or martinez to augusta mall, and now to village at riverwatch. The forum augusta will be off I-20 and walton way ext. Evans should worry about martinez, north auguta, aiken, thomson, or grovetown. Its just a suburb of augusta nothing more. There are plenty of upscale neighborhoods in richmond county. Houses cost more than some of the ones CC.

MartinezWest Augusta

Everybody thinks its just old money in augusta. And all the new money is in aiken county or especially columbia martinez and evans. That's simply not true there alot of new neighborhoods being built or just got done. are exspensive neighborhoodss in west augusta. Just check the jimmie dyess belair road area. And the hephzibah area in south richmond. Plant vogtle is bringing thousand of jobs. South aug is about to boom. Just because the evans chronicle doesn't report about crime in CC. Because they're friends and them live there. Doesn't mean crime doesn't happen trust me. But trust me when all the whites start moving back downtown in augusta. And the percentage of whites goes up. Its about 46% white excluding hephzibah and blythe. The media will turn on the suburbs especially columbia county and some about aiken. I've seen the same thing happen in atlanta. They started to turn on outer atlanta counties.

MartinezWest Augusta

There should have been a article west augusta does well with out city status. Its growing faster than hephzibah, evans, grovetown, martinez, thomson, waynesboro, north augusta, and aiken. Most of the I-20 construction is where? The augusta mall construction and village at riverwatch where? ADP and T-mobile new buildings off wheeler rd where? All the new hotels on riverwatch/washington rd is where? The forum augusta a 300,000 sq.ft lifestyle center where? Really west augusta should form its own city. And annex parts of grovetown, martinez, and evans that's uincoporated. That way augusta could focus on southaugusta/hephzibah/burke county and bring more growth that way. Downtown is going to take care of itself with all the new projects going on. That's why north augusta probably will have a better chance. At becoming the second city over evans and aiken after augusta.
