SWAINSBORO, Ga. - Durden- Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Hugh Dorsey Flanders, Sr., age 93, of Swainsboro, GA on Monday, April 14, 2008, at the Candler Hospital in Savannah, GA after an extended illness. Funeral services are Thursday, April 17th, at 11AM in the Sardis Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Lindy Webb officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery with Masonic rites. Mr. Flanders will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends at Durden-Hudson Funeral Home Wednesday evening from 6 - 8 PM. Pallbearers are Harry Martin, Jay Lawson, Dickie Harrison, Harris Flanders, Henry Flanders, Mickey Flanders, Doyle Kersey, and Al Lawson. Honorary Pallbearers Frank M. Flanders, Edward Derst, Jr., Edward Derst, III, Morgan Derst, Walter Jackson, Steve Piazza, Shorty Sheppard and John Scott. Mr. Flanders was a native of Emanuel County and in 1934 joined the US Marine Corps. He was District Manager for Derst Baking Company for 37 years and was a tree farmer and businessman. He was a member of Swainsboro Masonic Lodge #244 F&AM and in July, 2004 he was rewarded from Grand Lodge of Georgia his 50 year apron and pin. He was a member and past Governor of the Swainsboro Moose Lodge and a member of the Swainsboro Jaycees. Mr. Flanders was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Jordan and Artazel Tyson Flanders, sister, Amanda Flanders, brother, Norman Flanders and grandson, Hugh Dorsey "Tracy" Flanders, III. Mr. Flanders was a strong willed quiet man who was extremely proud of his family. He died having accomplished all his goals in life. Survivors include: his wife of 72 years: Georgia Lawson Flanders of Swainsboro, GA; Two Sons and Daughters-In-Law: Dr. Hugh Dorsey Flanders, Jr. and Mary of Savannah, GA and Don Flanders, Sr. and Stephanie of Swainsboro, GA; Two Sisters: Veatrice Flanders of Swainsboro, GA and Alvona Flanders of Adrian, GA; 5 Grandchildren: Bonnie Flanders, Don Flanders, Jr., Courtney Cummings, Richard Flanders and Robert Flanders; 2 Great-Grandchildren.
