Writer was wrong on several fronts

On April 11, a letter by Mildred Grigsby stated that all the wars since World War I were started by Democrats and cleaned up by Republicans. It's just not true.

And to blame the present mess in Iraq on President Carter is absurd. I always thought that President Reagan with his henchman Ollie North did whatever it took to delay the release of the hostages. Who knows what kind of deal they made with the Iranians?

Also I don't believe in giving the reporters guns. If anybody ought to be over there fighting, it's Congress. Send those Washington fatcats over there and I bet the war would be over, at least our part, in a month. I do agree, though, with Mrs. Grigsby that we should not pull out without total victory.

Jay Collett, Augusta

Jay, your stupid comment

Jay, your stupid comment about Ollie North not withstanding, you're right about the inaccuracies of Ms Grigsby's letter. It was corrected several times in the comments.

People can disagree about
Unpublished

People can disagree about what/who started particular wars, however, the results are the same, loss of life. And like most events during life, if U don't have first-hand experiences, your understanding is limited to media accounts, newspaper articles & books. If you lost no one or don't know anyone (personally), your thoughts center on simple explanations heard somewhere. This war will remain a huge stain on the country and our veterans, and get ready to pay. The article reference "fatcats" in Washington who should be fighting. Well, every American should pay something-if they truely believe in war-to support it. Bring back the draft.

A point well made justus4. As a country, America has very little invested in this war and it's splitting us apart. I like the Israeli system. Everyone does military time as part of their civic duty.

Retired Army, your comments

Retired Army, your comments are very Cain like, and about as contributary. I don't think we'll ever agree on anything unless you decide to use intelligence in forming your opinions.

Here we have an example of

Here we have an example of the debating strategy of the left: To counter a claim made by an opponent, Collett says, "It's just not true." Then, he offers NOT A SINGLE SLIVER OF EVIDENCE TO THE CONTRARY. A reader would logically come to the conclusion that the original statement is true and that Collett has no facts to back up his claim.
