Festival will feature kites, family fun and games

Alicia Davis is hoping for a breezy but sunny day Saturday.

"I think everyone loves flying kites, but a lot of people don't do it unless they have some type of event," said Ms. Davis, recreation program coordinator with the city of Aiken's Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department.

The Aiken Kite Festival will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Perry Memorial Park, 720 Abbeville Ave. N.E.

People can bring their own kites or purchase one from a vendor. Also, children can decorate their kites and enter the kite-decorating contest, which begins at 12:30 p.m.

Ms. Davis said she doesn't know of any similar events in the area.

Members of Suburban Atlanta Kite Enthusiasts will present demonstrations.

There will be amusements, such as inflatables, rides and a rock-climbing wall. The cost will be $1 per ride or a $10 wristband for unlimited rides.

"I think this is something different for the community to come out and enjoy," she said.
